21. Riccarton Capsule Hotel

Unlike the many space-age pods out there, those at the Riccarton Hotel avoid unsettling sterility. Rather, the soft blue lighting within these capsules seeks to enhance aerospace design.

22. Hotel Cabana

Location: Osaka, Japan

Here at Hotel Cabana, the capsules appear to be more like commercial kitchen ovens. However, being completely soundproof, lightproof, and for males only, these stainless-steel capsules stand resolute in their function and origins.

23. Container Hotel | Capsule Hotel

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Through freight containers and concrete tubing, Container Hotel attempts to embrace the Kyosho jutaku craze, the concept of living large on a small footprint. Although the industrialized-jungle aesthetic is becoming more of a millennial trope, the recycled materials still make this hotel an eco-friendly option.

28. Maja Hotel

Location: Kyoto, Japan
Architects: interior by Harri Koskinen

Maja Hotel’s eponymic conceptualization (Maja translating to ‘hut’) is realized through the recurring vernacular motif of the hut, a symbol of comfort. Whilst the street façade references machiya, traditional Japanese townhouses, the light Tamo Ash wood used in the interior spaces materializes the Scandinavian aesthetic.
