‘When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
’cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are!’
Very few people wouldn’t be captivated by the smooth voice that gave life to these beautiful lines from American singer Bruno Mars’ Billboard topper ‘Just the Way You Are’.
Bruno Mars, born Peter Gene Hernandez on October 8, 1985, in Honolulu, Hawaii, is a Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and music producer who has captivated global audiences with his incredible talent, infectious energy, and retro music style. From his early days performing in his family’s band to becoming one of the best-selling artists of his generation, Mars has left an enduring impression on the music industry. Renowned for his dynamic stage performances, retro showmanship, and effortless combination of elements of pop, R&B, funk, and soul, Mars has earned widespread acclaim and a devoted fan base worldwide. Along with numerous accolades, the pop icon also holds four Guinness World Records.
With an estimated net worth of $175 million, it can be assumed that Bruno Mars can buy anything his heart desires- from luxury outfits to mansions and private jets. This article offers an insight into the houses previously and currently owned by the singer, who is said to currently reside in his hillside mansion in Los Angeles along with his longtime girlfriend Jessica Caban.
The Hawaii House
Situated in his hometown Honolulu, Mars bought this sprawling vacation home in 2012 for $3.1 million.
Built in 1991, the property sits just a house away from the ocean on a site spanning more than 14,520 sq. ft, and a total built area of 4124 sq. ft.
The house was put up on the market for sale in 2015 for $3.7 million but sold off at $2.7 million.
Exteriors
The tropical-style mansion features a large front garage and a spacious front yard.
The cream-toned walls exude a sense of warmth and carry on the tropical vibe very well. The outside lounging area features a hot tub and cabana with a gas grill along with the extravagant pool.
Interiors
The open-plan interiors feature a Balinese-inspired décor, with high ceilings and arched doorways.
The house features plenty of planned open spaces and four bedrooms. The master and guest suites are of hotel standard, all with plenty of space and large attached marble bathrooms.
The living and dining areas open to the backyard and the large glass windows fill the interiors with light.
A winding marble staircase connects the ground floor to the upper level.
The kitchen is standard, with a dining island in the center, and features modern appliances. It too opens up to the pristine backyard views.
The house also features a spacious recording studio to help the singer complete his albums during his stay.
Los Angeles House
Mars’ first home in Los Angeles is a sleek, contemporary home along the borders of Studio City, Hollywood Hills West. He bought it in 2012 for $3.2 million. Built in 1960 and freshly renovated, the single-story house spans 4064 sq. ft.
The house was sold in 2015 to producer couple Rob Cohen & Jill Leiderman for $3.3 million.
Exteriors
The front exterior of the L.A residence is defined by large stone columns that lead to two 11-foot frosted glass entry doors. The house sits behind a stone wall and thick hedges that provides much needed privacy.
Most walls are equipped with retractable glass openings to bring in the city and mountain views. Fronted by a 10-vehicle motor-court, the mansion also offers ample off-street parking for 10 or more cars.
The wooden deck in the backyard holds a streamlined pool lined with petite chaise lounges.
Interiors
The single-story house includes 3 bedrooms and 3.5 baths and flaunts an open floor plan. Even though it was freshly remodeled, the structure exudes an iconic Hollywood Regency vibe.
The combined living and dining room has skylights and expansive glass panels that seamlessly connect to the yards.
Adjacent to this space is a cozy den with a fireplace, along with a comfortable home office tailored for the pop icon’s needs.
The impressive master suite features heated floors, glass sliders opening to the deck, and a spacious dressing room.
A highlight is the extra luxurious bathroom, complete with a massage and gym area, steam shower, and a multi-person dry sauna that tempts one to linger around and indulge in relaxation.
The sleek, modern kitchen boasts all amenities and an indoor-outdoor sound system adds to the house’s appeal.
California House
Bruno Mars made headlines in 2014 with his purchase of this $6.5 million private, two-plus acre estate in a discrete gated community in the Fryman Canyon- a celebrity neighborhood in Studio City on the North side of Mulholland Drive. The multistory villa covers a built area of 9000 sq. ft.
The Mediterranean-style mansion built in 2000 boasts exemplary views- of the canyon, city, and mountains.
Exteriors
The approach to the mansion is via a private road lined with long hedges and trees, that leads to a spacious driveway, with a front-facing, built six-car garage.
Referred to by many as a complete ‘resort’, the villa possesses an impressive outside entertainment area, with an infinity pool and spa with amazing views, a built-in grill station, an outdoor kitchen, and also a children’s playground.
The open-air cabana features a stone fireplace and built-in heaters.
Interiors
Renovated recently by a European designer with high-end finishes, the villa is occupied with seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms. The designer has made pretty bold statements with jewel-toned furnishings, patterned wallpapers, and rugs. Soaring ceilings and wide-open hallways ensure that the interiors are always light-filled.
Past the entrance space, one enters a circular foyer with a dramatic double-height rotunda, that leads one seamlessly into the living and dining room.
A formal dining room dazzles with red walls and a fancy chandelier.
The vivid red walls also make an appearance in one of the sitting rooms, complemented by a grand black fireplace. The expansive family room is all occupied for family time with a wet bar and wine cellar.
The gourmet eat-in kitchen has a central island, adjoining breakfast room with views to the outside, and a glass door that opens to the pool and yard.
The mansion features separate guest and children’s wings. Four-bedroom suites and a wood-paneled office are set up in the guest wing. The children’s wing includes two ensuite bedrooms and a great room with kitchen.
The master suite is extra luxurious and boasts a fireplace, kitchenette, coffee bar, and dual walk-in-closets with an attached bathroom complete with steam and dry saunas and a spa tub offering scenic views of the property.
A pre-wired home theatre completes the entertainment scenario. The property is a complete smart home and can be easily controlled with an iPhone or iPad.
Conclusion
As we look inside Bruno’s houses, it becomes evident that he values comfort and style. From the Hawaii house to the current California dream home, each place reflects his taste and need for privacy. His living spaces mirror what the singer is beyond the spotlight and gives us a glimpse to his distinct personality.
