Situated in an urbanized area near Guarulhos International Airport and Zezinho Magalhães Housing Complex, the surrounding landscape of SESC Guarulhos displays a diverse and sometimes fragmented design, characteristic of urban environments undergoing growth and transformation.

Within this context, the project aims to emphasize SESC’s role as a social communicator and cultural hub through architecture that not only caters to the specific needs of its activities and functions but also contributes to the creation of a more continuous, cohesive, and unified urban setting.

The building’s access is generous and non-intimidating, seamlessly integrating with the surrounding urban fabric and inviting visitors to explore and utilize the facility.

Internally, the spaces are organized around a large Coexistence Plaza, which serves as a central hub for external flows and facilitates the coordination, articulation, and distribution of the various activities within the complex. This transparent and visually permeable plaza showcases the events taking place in the building and incorporates the surrounding landscape into its interior spaces. The roof system, consisting of metal grids, glass, air extractors, and horizontal perforated aluminum louvers for sun protection, filters natural light and crowns this open and airy space.

The internal circulation is thoughtfully designed with ramps, walkways, and corridors overlooking the Coexistence Plaza, enhancing the dynamic and extroverted character of the building.

SESC Guarulhos is organized across three levels:

GROUND FLOOR: The Coexistence Plaza opens up to Customer Service, Exhibition Rooms, Dental Clinic, as well as Children’s and Youth Recreation Areas. Additionally, the indoor Sports Gymnasium, along with its supporting toilets and locker rooms, caters to public use. The Loading and Unloading Patio and the Operational Sector, with independent entrances, are conveniently located adjacent to the two levels of vehicle parking, facilitating service flows and operational efficiency for the Theater, Restaurant, and other areas of the complex.

INTERMEDIATE FLOOR: The Theater, with its foyer facing the open space of the Coexistence Plaza, stands as a separate solid structure. Its dimensions, including the seating area, stage, wings, and backstage, can adapt to the diverse requirements of SESC. This level also houses the Aquatic Complex (covered and uncovered) and outdoor Sports Courts, taking advantage of the natural topography of the land. The Food Court, strategically positioned to overlook both the Coexistence Plaza and the pools with solarium areas, offers users diverse and delightful visual perspectives. Additionally, the Administration, Library, Environmental Station, and external garden spaces are distributed on this floor.

SUPERIOR FLOOR: The top floor accommodates Multipurpose Rooms, a Multifunctional Gymnastics area, and Physical Activity spaces. The access corridors, apart from facing the Coexistence Plaza, traverse double-height voids in the Sports Gymnasium and Indoor Pool. A balcony for outdoor activities, overlooking the Aquatic and Sports Center, enhances the usability of these rooms while providing shade to the lower-level Food Court. Finally, a comprehensive Music Center concludes the spaces of this vibrant and dynamic complex.
