At the beginning of my career, I had a limited understanding of architecture. Usually, everyone thinks architecture is simply about designing spaces and buildings for people to live or work. While working as an architect, one may learn about different aspects of architecture. However, it is surprising to discover that architecture today is not just about building impressive buildings, creating sleek aesthetics, or designing elegant interiors. Architecture has always been a way of life; it’s not just what structures are but what they represent and how they function through our various layers of history and culture. Ideally, architecture should coexist harmoniously with society, nature, and human behaviour.

In my opinion, architecture had a profound influence on my perspective right from the beginning of my college experience. Let me add how the architecture changed my perspective.

 Scribbles become a masterwork.

As a freshman in college, they introduced us to a fascinating part of the course in which we scribbled. Scribbling was less exciting initially, but lately, I’ve realised it is worth creating a masterwork. It may be difficult for an adult to understand scribbles. Their appearance is reminiscent of a series of lines, loops, and squiggles. An architect, however, finds these marks to be extremely valuable. It was nice to choose art classes and graphic studios from freshman college, allowing learning how to sketch, draw, and create artwork from the very beginning. Scribbles evolved into ideas for sketching masterpieces, which gave rise to the birth of a masterpiece. For instance, we can view the sketches of famous architects like Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry, and Renzo Piano. They scribbled out the ideas back then, but today we can see the wonders that they have created. My understanding has finally changed. I am not talking about the part where we scribble it. Instead, it is about communicating the idea in depth.

Observation generates ideas.

To understand a subject such as architecture, one must always be aware of what is happening around them. Nearly everywhere we look, brand-new buildings are popping up in cities, allowing anyone to learn how they work. Construction projects are a valuable educational tool for architects. They allow us to observe the various types of construction processes without actively participating in them. We can gain a deeper understanding of how a building is built by looking at the construction process. In addition, it shows how the building’s features fit together in a logical order. Observing the construction process closely, one can notice how activities and materials change over time. The act of observing develops our ability to pay attention to details as we progress along.

Building for users

The influence of architecture extends to society and its users. Material finishes, lighting, and layout of a space influence its occupants’ health, mood, and productivity. Well-designed spaces can lead to better performance, less sick time, and help people focus more. Buildings and environments that are tasteless, concrete, and boring create an overwhelming visual blitz. People feel happier, healthier, and more creative when attracted by a beautiful building or a thoughtful connection to nature. People’s response to well-designed architecture is tough to predict. We all know what it feels like to enter a space that feels right. There’s a deeper purpose than just being functional; it is in tune with us irrationally. It is pertinent to design for function, but it is also necessary to touch on that level of feeling when engaging with architecture. Rather than just understanding, it is an emotional connection between the user and the space.

Being willing to take risks

Having a clear understanding of the main function and the key purpose of rules will allow one to adjust or even alter them by circumstances. There is no doubt that there will be disagreements between clients and architects, just as there will be disagreements between architecture instructors. As architects, we should not lose the edge if we treat rules only as strict boundaries rather than considering them to accomplish our ultimate goals. Taking risks is not always profitable. It is more likely to survive failure with a thorough understanding before committing to them.Perhaps we will even be able to accomplish results that truly amaze us.

Know-it-all

Being able to handle multiple aspects of design requires having a diverse knowledge base. Thorough knowledge and understanding of any subject unrelated to architecture will widen the mind and provide solutions to problems that need to be solved using effective strategies and logical reasoning. Architects should be able to know something about everything, which leads to interaction with different professions, which builds a network between those professions, and gains a mentality that architects know how to use space, which leads to an advantage of interactive designs. It would take a lifetime to master the profession of architecture, which is like a never-ending buffet. Keeping moderation and balance in the choices of courses, but it is also important to try multiple things to remain skilled and relevant – to pack as much knowledge as possible into a limited time. As possible.

Solution-oriented approach

Throughout the design process, architecture requires diverse conceptual methods. To solve problems and identify issues, architects must access such perspectives and strategies and employ them independently of pure design thought. Design thinking is a solution-oriented approach to design. With an understanding of a solution-oriented approach, architects must be committed to the basic ethics of adaptability, teamwork, empathy, exploration, and optimism. It helps to maintain clarity of the goal throughout the entire project development process, and it leads to better-than-expected outcomes for both the client and the user. It is possible to improve methods equally by analysing current and future scenarios and the problem criteria. Using these approaches allows one to find applicable, efficient, and creative solutions to problems and provides a systematic methodology for solving those problems.

The cost-effectiveness of engaging an architect is often overlooked or unknown. A well-designed structure is a wise investment. An architect prevents overspending and wasting resources. However, it does contribute value to the architecture concerning sustainability and management. Architects consider not just the demands of the users but also environmental, sustainability, and social and cultural considerations. Structures and settings have an impact on our perspectives and actions. In this way, architects add value to society and influence the entire community. Initiatives require a change to the social, environmental, and economic systems in which we interact, and they can only achieve their goals via education, involvement, and action.
