As architects, we have unique opportunities to utilize our sense of humor in a more creative way than just telling jokes. In-fact architectural sense of humor should be mandatory for all architects. We have all been in various situations since the beginning of this profession through our studies and as and when we graduate that sense of humor becomes a part of our life which adds on to ‘the image’ of architects being a people pleaser.

We being our own tour guide-As students of architecture we tend to travel as much as possible to explore to know the places and all this being a part of our studies we tend to learn about different places, cities, etc. If we plan a vacation with our family we usually tend to be the guide ourselves because we know when it was built, why it was built, who it was built for, the entire history of the place. Can we imagine having a guide along? No, we would not stop talking because we make sure we know better than them!
Natural photographers- We have always been natural photographers who know better about perspective, lighting, and also editing becomes so easy for us because there isn’t any software or editing program we don’t know about. So if in case of any mistake it’s so easy and convenient for us to correct it using these programs.
Night owl- A messy room, rolled up pieces of papers, containers of take-out food, empty water bottles, costly unopened books, forgot to save files, redo sheets, T-scale, drawer of anything and one cup of coffee which is always filled Up this explains a typical night of architects. Their day starts at night and the actual day is mostly meant to sleep. Being a night owl in this profession comes with advantages as well because we can cancel our plans anytime! Which also makes us come up with social-excuses.

Relationship between architects and civil engineers- A civil engineer always thinks that architects are just there to create a superficial design and they get to do the hardest part which is making it structurally stable. They also think designing seems very easy and also an architect and civil engineer will never get along. Imagine an architect dating a civil engineer their date night is mostly going to be more on discussing who has much work to do.
The wind of one architect sways influence over others in their house- we have all been in that situation wherein we just try getting opinions from the entire family and they tend to guide us through the entire process. Their ideas would matter more than ours, it would be more innovative and creative. Also, siblings cutting down sheets for us which would make our work so much easier.
The best baristas- There isn’t any architect who will not know where to get the best coffee as we tend to drink so many mugs of coffee that we have lost count, U name it and we know it. There isn’t anything than coffee that could save our lives from stress and pressure. However long the day goes one cup of coffee is all we need.
Patience level- Have you ever seen an impatient architect? The amount of patience they have just to see the entire 3D Render to complete or even panicking after the last-minute file crash, it is not a surprise because most of the architects have mastered the art of patience.
Supply of cool pens- We own the coolest pens, pencils, crayons, paints, and charcoal. You name it we have it. We own not just a single type but various once, collections of color with different shades.
Juries- This is the best part of an architecture student/architect’s journey, the jury. As much as the jury gives us the confidence to speak our hearts out about the design and as much as it scares us just because we silently get judged for our design for our font style and whatnot. Getting praised in a jury will make you stand on top of the world and when the score comes out to be the exact opposite of what we were praised for. This put us in a situation where our friends think we just lied about the entire situation. The jury is more about that one a-hole, post jury interview, free therapy, my print is coming moment, entry queue.
Pinterest is our best friend- This allows us to share images through social networking. It allows us to pinboard and to post ideas that we would want to remember and then share them with friends. Pinterest is one of the best apps which helps us get design ideas to create and also learn.
Case studies and site analysis in architecture- This is all about 100 questions on how to start? Where to start? Will green make my design look good? Is the sun path important? The wind direction remains confusing always, our inner self telling us it’s okay to skip on the case studies, go to sleep, site analysis doesn’t have marks, my design will anyways be screwed up.
They tend to focus on the details- As architects we tend to observe the smallest details and every detail matters. Starting from a fresh trim to the bathroom tiles not aligned correctly. Everything catches in our eyes easily. We also tend to observe if someone has gotten a new pair of shoes, carpet not aligned; the couch moved 10cm away from where it was. Every detail will be noticed.
Architects style- it usually tends to amaze the fact that not all are the same so the fashion sense varies from person to person but sometimes happens to be more like they have a good fashion sense but sometimes they also tend to lack in their fashion sense. It depends on the mood of a person. We enjoy it when a group of architect’s/architecture students joins together as it is a parade of styles and the outfits that become a feast for all the others watching us. The group has a mixed variation of outfits, some dressed very professional, some in their usual trousers, some in joggers, some overdressed. This gives insight into how architect’s styles vary just like how all our designs aren’t the same.
An architect’s dress code- we contribute to the culture and reputation in the way they present themselves. Appearance matters as this let us create an impression with clients and the company or for that matter juries as well. Black is a safe color which is usually preferred as it suits anyone and everyone. Because the architect’s attire should be minimal yet condescending at the same time.
Fears an architect usually have– we usually fear of cutting out hands while cutting the pieces for model and the blood would be all over the model, we dream about getting redo and thank god it’s just a dream, presenting our sheets in front of the entire class is scary and we also imagine us fainting as we tend to panic a lot more than usual, we also think that when we download software the cops will come and bust us as sometimes we don’t tend to get the original version, we also fear of falling from a high rise building when we tend to go for a case study/site visit and the fear of keeping an alarm just so that we get up to work and the alarm tends to ring but we wouldn’t wake us up at all.
Social life? – sorry, never heard of it. The day we decided to take up architecture was the day our social life was dead and now, to celebrate this death anniversary we go out once in a year.
