Materials like shape memory alloys can be deformed when cold and return to their original form when heated. Thermochromic materials change colour with temperature variations. These materials allow changes in aesthetics without frequently replacing upholstery, giving a cost-effective and visually versatile solution.

2. Recycled Polyester: This 100% recycled PET water bottle fabric is soft, durable, and comfortable. This polyester type has the same feel and life span as regular or virgin polyester and is an excellent step for helping the environment.

3. Pinatex: This leather substitute is made from pineapple waste. This is made using cellulose fibres extracted from pineapple leaves that are burnt or left to rot; this is taken from pineapple plantations in the Philippines by separating the strands and felting them together in a non-woven fabric. This fabric is breathable, durable and flexible.

4. Cork Leather: This honey-comb structure insulation provider material is made from the bark of cork oaks and grown in the Mediterranean region of Europe by hand cutting them from the trees, drying them, and pressing the cork into sheets. This results in a soft, flexible, strong, smooth, shiny, water-resistant, flame-resistant, hypoallergenic and environmentally friendly vegan leather. Because of these functions, it can be used for luxury furniture.

5. Sunbrella: This fabric is manufactured with Color to the Core technology, which means each fiber is saturated with colour and UV-stabilized pigments, then this fiber is spun into yarns, which are then woven into long-lasting performance fabrics. This fabric provides comfort, durability, softness, ease of cleaning, stain and water resistance, fade resistance and UV protection. Because of Sunbrella’s versatility, it can be used in indoor upholstery, outdoor upholstery, marine furniture, windows and shade.

6. Nano-Treated Fabric: These are textiles enhanced with nanotechnology, creating a microscopic coating on fibres to provide advanced protection while keeping their natural look and feel; these are also stain-resistant, durable, antibacterial and antiviral. This fabric can be used in sofas, dining chairs, hotels, restaurants, and outdoor furniture. An example could be Crypton Fabric. GREENGUARD Gold Certified upholstery fabric is a rigid material known for its odour resistance, easy cleaning and aesthetics. It can be used anywhere from residential homes to commercial settings like ships.

7.
