12. Mr. Toilet House, Suwon, South Korea

This toilet is located in a theme park in South Korea in front of a commode-shaped museum for Sim Jae-duck who was one-time mayor of Suwon and the first president of the World Toilet Association.

13. Shigeru ban’s Tokyo toilets | Public washrooms

Two similar toilets were designed by the renowned Japanese architect Shigeru Ban as a part of the ‘Tokyo toilet’ project to maintain cleanliness and security in these public restrooms. The toilet block is composed of three cubicles for women, men, and accessible’ s and the surface becomes opaque when the door is locked.

14. Nao Tamura’s all-red restroom 

This toilet block is located on a small triangular plot and is designed by new york-based designer Nao Tamura as part of the ‘Tokyo toilet’ project. There are three separate spaces in the block and the form is inspired by ‘origata’ – a traditional Japanese method of decorative wrapping as a symbol of gift to the multinational visitors of Sibuya.

15. Wonderwall’s Tokyo toilet | Public washrooms

This toilet complex also has been designed under the ‘Tokyo toilet’ project and designed by the firm Wonderwall. 15 concrete walls are leading the users to three different areas for men, women, and access. The form is inspired by Japanese ‘kawaya’ which means traditional hut that stood over the river.

16. HZA’s public toilet in Norway

Oslo based studio HZA designed this toilet block at Ureddplassen, a popular tourist spot in Norway to observe the northern light. Following the edge of the curving terrain, the concrete terrace is designed with prefabricated concrete steps forming an amphitheater and at the opposite of the terrace this toilet block appears as a sliced up concrete surface and the surface is covered with translucent glazing illuminated from inside.

17. Public toilet in a secluded garden in Ichihara, Japan

Designed by acclaimed Japanese architect, Sou Fujimoto this toilet block is made of clear glass and located with a secret garden surrounded by a 2-meter-tall wooden roll wall to provide privacy.

18. Minturn mining toilet at Minturn, Colorado, USA | Public washrooms

Inspired by the site’s rich history of mining, these two uniquely designed public toilets were constructed using 3D technology. The wooden copper-colored ripple surface appears as functional art and reflects the uniqueness of the local community.

19. Gallery TOTO at Narita Airport, Japan

This toilet is located in the Sky Lounge WA, in the departure area of Narita Airport. The toilet block is a showroom for TOTO, the leading Japanese toilet manufacturer, and is designed as clear glass boxes of ten toilet rooms where the silhouettes are visible from outside.

20. The delusive mirrored rest area in Northern Norway | Public washrooms

This toilet facility is within a picnic area in a protected cultural monument as the site is used by the indigenous Sami people for outdoor worship service that attracts many travelers. The structure is a folded concrete slab enveloping a mirrored glass volume, making the surface disappear from outside and reflects the natural landscape. The visitors can enjoy the view from the inside of this one-way mirrored glass surface.
