Situated in a dense residential neighborhood of Gurugram, The Library House was envisioned for a family of six across three generations. The client, a middle-aged woman, desired a home that would remain simple in form yet layered in experience — one where natural light, greenery, and calmness shape the rhythms of everyday life.

The residence faces south to maximize daylight, while a grove of six mature trees along the western edge provides shade, seasonal variation, and a constant connection to nature. Balconies and terraces open toward this green edge, ensuring the house breathes with its surroundings despite its urban context.

At the center of the design lies a triple-height courtyard, a luminous core around which all spaces are arranged. The ground floor holds the communal living and dining spaces, an open prayer hall, and the grandmother’s room, each visually anchored to the courtyard. Rising above is the striking cantilevered library — the defining feature of the home. This sculptural volume symbolizes contemplation, knowledge, and interconnection, while serving as the spatial and emotional anchor of the house.

The first floor accommodates the owner’s and daughter’s rooms, maintaining intimacy yet openness to the courtyard. The second floor houses the son and daughter-in-law’s suite, extending outward to balconies shaded by the trees. Across all levels, the courtyard binds the family together, allowing visual connections that span generations.

A restrained palette of stone, wood, and white plaster establishes a sense of quiet simplicity. Skylights and large openings reduce reliance on artificial light, while terraces and planted balconies weave greenery into everyday life. From the sculptural library overlooking the courtyard to the sunlit living spaces, The Library House creates an atmosphere of serenity, connectedness, and intimacy with nature — a dwelling where family, knowledge, and light come together as one.
