Over the past years, the ‘burst’ of architecture has played a tremendous role in shaping our society. The milieu of living that is so commended is a harbor for architecture to push its roots through the dirt of society, community, and living. As the profession of architecture dates back to ancient times, the evolution of the technology and strategy involved in this field have also emerged relatively slower while compared to the ever fast pacing modern society.

“We need to find multidisciplinary solutions to the great challenges of our time to continue to live and thrive on this planet,” says Kjetil Trædal Thorsen, founder of Snøhetta.

As the world plummets into the abyss of complex problems, architecture alone cannot solve them, which leads to the further curiosity of how architects would survive in the ‘maze’ or rather how architecture would play a vital role in molding the future of living spaces. Great design that could tackle the ‘futuristic’ conundrum would drastically lead the way for architects to mark their presence.

“I am hopeful for the future of design and architecture,” says Thorsen.

As a field of excellence towards building better living conditions, it is a necessity to thrive even under immense conundrums, however as the technical advancement progresses it is really hard to respond to what the future holds for this field as well as the folks who depend on it.

Hundred years down the line the kind of modernization that is expected to boom would rather be very different from what we are experiencing now, I believe that architecture potentially has the means to the notion of this growth for a more implausible reality than what is expected.

Is Architecture Heading Towards its Downfall or Will it Persist? Is it The Key to Modernization

Architecture has to lead the way for civilizations to grow and persist over the years. Being a field of possibilities isn’t it highly likely that the future of architecture is highly intense, is what we all imagine it to be. The fate of possibilities however may either redeem itself or may become its biggest foe. With the rapid evolution of available technologies and the integration of them, the role of an architect evolves at a faster pace.

The future of architecture has been a hot topic for a while now and has evolved from a mere idea of flying cars and ‘touching the sky’ kind of building to a much more pragmatic approach. The architecture itself covers vast topics ranging from spatial organizing to design techniques to the newer invention in materials, so the future of architecture is quite an untold, unpredictable story.

Timeless growth in the field to meet the new era of ‘modernization’

With certain exceptions, most of the buildings still seem to follow the year-old trends maintaining that culture.

To avoid becoming obsolete and inefficient, current practices need to change. Net-zero buildings, automated control systems, and multi-functional design are examples of critical enablers when developing buildings for the next 100 years. (Wang)

At the end of the line, it becomes a necessity for buildings to shape themselves into the trend to fit the ever-changing puzzle of modernization

Adapt, learn, and evolve-a key concept to materialize futuristic thoughts and to complement the growing trends. As architects, the profession itself is a meticulous field where every single stage of development is connected not just physically to an individual but mentally as a challenge too.

The future of architecture comprises two wings: sustainable design and the sleek, high-tech look. At the first impression, the two are bound to be mutually complete.

As architecture takes the front seat it becomes our duty to provide a complete end-user experience and improve the efficiency of the spatial program. With the modern shift towards performance and the business necessity of creating a functional building for the client’s need, the architect of the future must strike a balance between form and function, art and science, as well as technology and soul.

Is A Surreal Approach The Way to A New Modernized Culture

First and foremost it truly is necessary to understand how architecture is practiced and preached to learn its impacts. Over the years practices ranged from small to large firms, the type of design created spoke about the kind of impact it would provide towards the community. Hence it becomes ideal to root ourselves into the smallest myths and question the phobia of working and designing to just appeal society.

The future of architecture might not be clear at this stage but as architects, we must prepare ourselves for the better. The concept of futurism may be sleek and high tech or can be a much more subtle yet green design. Each individual’s opinion craves a different yet vivid future that paces towards a modernized outlook of the career as a whole.

The future of architecture is a combination of both elementsthe minimalist, modern, sleek aesthetic and the environmentally friendly, money-saving practicality. Even though the basic amenities and design concepts would remain analogous, architecture still has the power to change the futurefor the better.

We might not be able to solve the entire contextual problem rising however approaching the problems in a more integrated format by developing and combining technological advancement along with progressive thinking.

Debunking the Myth of Creating Combined Efforts by Designers and Developers

To create an integrated future the basic skill of team efforts is a must, considering that spatial organization and development requires not just architects but also developers, interior, landscape designers, and so on. As the key to creating a future of cohabitation, modern frame co-existence is necessary.

We are already a part of a crazy evolving era. As expected over the coming years, reports already show that there is going to be an uproar in the population and this will, in turn, have an effect on the inhabited cities. The way of living will become a plausible means to understand the end-user activities as well as the kind of environment we would thrive upon.

Architecture Can and Will Adapt to Fit into the Modernized Realm

We may not be sure about what exactly the future holds but all we can do is make educated guesses. Despite the world’s possibilities of branching to a more specific type of movie and making us reimagine such scenes, it may not all be true while the thought of modernization hits to the highly anticipated VR sort of environment in reality it may be plausible that we look for a smaller, more rooted, green living space.

What lies in the future may be unbeknownst to us, however, the role of an architect and architecture as a whole may completely change and leave a different impact altogether. As we see progress already emerging in various fields there are hints of the newer trends that would change the imprint that architecture would end up living.

Only time will tell on how the practice would adapt and change, but a soft now architecture is rather playing the pivotal role in shaping our present, more like creating a synergy to prepare us for the indefinite future.
