Bombay House:

Services: Retrofitting and Re-architecture.

The project was supposed to be inaugurated on 29th July 2018 J.R.D. Tata’s birthday after the process of retrofitting and refurbishing. The modifications were:

  • Most external service lines relocated internally (plumbing, sanitation, air conditioners, etc).
  • Repaired cornices.
  • Change of external lighting.
  • Redone three entrance canopies.
  • Concrete pavers introduced around the building.
  • Floorwise conceptualization to depict the chronological narration of the tata group- evolution, reflection, metamorphosis.

The Old Yacht Club:

  • Client: Department of Atomic Energy
  • Location: Mumbai, Maharashtra
  • Status: Completed 2007
  • Area: 69930 sqft
  • Services: Restoration and Expansion

The existing structure was strengthened and restored keeping in mind the new requirements of the user. The original building was completed in 1881. John Adams was the architect of the club premises. In 1976 due to structural reasons about one-third of the existing building was demolished and R.C.C. interventions introduced.

SNK was appointed to restore the old existing building and reconstruct the demolished section. Once a retreat for the city’s resident Europeans, the Old Yacht Club is today a hub for the Department of Atomic Energy

Sthapatya Architects is a Jaipur based architectural consulting firm, established in 1996 by the architect’s duo and co-founders Sandeep Khandelwal and Ritu Khandelwal. They graduated from the first batch of architecture from MNIT, Jaipur and are members of the IIA, COA, IIID, Ph.D., and PETA. Plunging straight into private practice, right from college times, the creative couple progressed to make a mark in the design fabric of Rajasthan.

With a modern and progressive methodology using the latest technology & tools of design, the workplace is a nurturing and informal environment to bring out the best in design inculcating a studio space like culture.

MEJAGARH FORT:

  • Land Area of the Fort: approx. 48,260 sq. ft. Plinth Area of the Fort: 19,000 sq. ft.
  • Comprising of four floors, the Fort had about 50 rooms & 12 restrooms apart from about 10 open courtyards, which can be converted into Halls.
  • Located in northwest India, about 16 km from Bhilwara (a highly industrialized sector of Rajasthan) lies the Mejagarh Fort. The study unravels how the founder of the royal legacy of Meja Rawal Amar Singh Ji, who was in the service of the Maharana of Mewar, inherited the property. Impressed & overwhelmed by his act of bravery & loyalty, Maharana Shambhu Singh Ji granted him a Jagir in 1871, comprising of a picturesque village called Meja along with 23 other hamlets, surrounded by a scenic topography. Meja dam is one of the biggest irrigation projects in the state.
  • Began in the year 1875, the fort was assertively built over five years, under the supervision of Rawat Amar Singh Ji. Meja easily resolves into two cognate units, inseparable yet distinct and unique; fort and village. Meja’s architecture is a superlative blend of Rajput and Mughal style that was favored by the ruling elite at that time. Its austere facade is lightened by a large intricately carved jharokha on the top of an arched gateway with a huge wood and iron doors. The palace is built on a regular plan with two chowks (courtyards) and Burj on its four corners.
  • The arched entrance leads to the Mardana Chowk (outer courtyard) which is enclosed on all sides by various areas such as Mata Ji ka Mandir, Salah Khana, NeechekiTabariya, MardanaBaithak, etc.

ALILA FORT BISHANGARH – EXTERIOR:

  • The bare magnificent 230-year-old structure of the warrior fort of the kachawa clan stands atop a granite hillock looking over the small village of bishangarh.
  • It had been lying empty for years inhabited by bats and monkeys.
  • The great structure has lost its purpose of a refugee fort in today’s day and age and hence the visionary decision was made to adapt it into a hotel property, giving it a new stage of life.

J.N. Petit Library

The JN Petit Library and the Reading room is an iconic building on D. N. Road, Mumbai constructed in the last decade of the 19th Century. It is one of the few examples of public libraries and reading rooms in a city.

The restoration process consisted of structural repairs, waterproofing to make the building watertight and fenestration repairs. The interiors were restored to their original finish and detail.

The restoration of the project also won the UNESCO Asia Pacific Award of Distinction for the year 2015.

Army Navy Building

A heritage Building at Kala Ghoda, Mumbai for M/s Tata Sons Ltd. Army Navy Building is the first tenanted building to be comprehensively be restored in 1998. This was followed a modification of entrance lobby and enhancing the public areas like arcades, corridors and tidying the electrical routes. The ongoing repairs include the complete tile roof repairs.
