Historical resources are constantly in danger, either because of unfavorable environmental factors or human activities. Ensuring its preservation needs to be an integral aspect of governmental strategies consistently, particularly in times of war that result in extensive damage. Historical history may be conserved for future generations with the help of modern technologies.
A region’s whole historical and cultural legacy is the collection of artifacts that have been gathered there over time. They may be material or immaterial, but they are all a part of our civilization and national history. It also serves as a significant economic catalyst for tourism. We must preserve this heritage of the past for the sake of future generations while we live in the present.
In various spheres of human existence, tradition and heritage play a significant role. However, the definition of heritage shifts over time: “With time, the concept of heritage has expanded to encompass a wide range of material objects, natural phenomena, and nonmaterial forms of culture (like information technology), reflecting various facets of the relationship between man and nature, regional and global development trends, etc.” We may say that, due to the pressure of information flow, the importance of cultural legacy in the raising and education of a modern man vanishes and fades into the background.
Virtual Reality and Immersive Experiences
Immersion technologies that focus primarily on cognition and emotions, such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR), have lately improved visitor experiences by combining real-world and virtual environments. Visitors interact with VR apps created for a variety of uses, including marketing methods, education, and entertainment. Previous studies on VR applications in tourism have mostly focused on the effects that these apps have—positive or negative—on visitors’ experiences, as well as conceptual and theoretical strategies that have aided in marketing and the preservation of cultural assets. Others have researched the use of virtual reality apps to comprehend visitors’ behavioral intentions, particularly in museum environments. (Carlsson, 2020)
Based on prior research, our potential contribution to the field and research is twofold: we explore the multidimensional structure of immersive heritage tourism experiences in an archaeological site and, in contrast to the popular myth that nostalgia can only be evoked by drawing a connection between the tourist’s memory and the destination rather than the destination itself, we explore the multidimensional structure of immersive heritage tourism. This is because research on VR applications in heritage tourism is still in its infancy. The results of this study will help marketers better understand how visitors interact with heritage tourism through multifaceted virtual reality. (Nikonova, 2017)
