What if an office could feel like a city? What if a corridor narrated stories, or a workstation inspired unexpected encounters like a street corner café?

Ultraconfidentiel considers these to be ordinary design decisions rather than thinking experiments. The firm’s growth from a modest Delhi studio to a 150-person practice spanning India, Dubai, and Singapore is not just a narrative of scale. It is the story of insisting that even the most functional spaces could be poetic.

The Idea of “Ultra”
The name ‘Ultraconfidentiel’ itself is a statement. Bold yet discreet, which continues to characterize their design philosophy of pushing the boundaries while allowing restraint and purpose to influence the experience.
Ultraconfidentiel was founded in 2007 in New Delhi with the bold idea of combining global design sensibility with local insight. The founders saw a gap in India’s corporate interior landscape. Offices were built to be efficient yet uninspiring. Ultraconfidentiel conceived them as living ecosystems, spaces that could evolve, breathe, and tell the stories of the people that inhabit them.

During their InStudio with Kohler conversation at India Design ID 2024, the team reflected on their early years, where they spoke about the tiny studio, the sleepless nights, and the unwavering commitment to bringing craftsmanship and innovation together.
What kept them going wasn’t a vision of scale, but of sensitivity – the subtle sound of a door shutting, the way light drapes across textured surfaces, and the human warmth that a place might contain.

The desire of creating spaces that inspire tomorrow’s pioneers, continues to guide Ultraconfidentiel’s approach today. Their purpose is modest yet profound, which is to build environments that anticipate future needs rather than simply meeting current ones.

From Rooms to Worlds: A Distinct Design Philosophy
Ask Ultraconfidentiel what defines their practice, and three principles consistently surface, control, empathy, and narrative.

Design and Build Control: Ultraconfidentiel serves as both designer and builder, ensuring that creative intent and on-site execution are perfectly aligned. This end-to-end expertise eliminates the gap between concept and reality; ideas are not simply imagined; they are constructed exactly as envisioned.

Human-centricity: Ultraconfidentiel measures achievement in terms of energy rather than square footage. Every office must foster collaboration, attention, and wellbeing. The business thinks that places should anticipate future requirements rather than only meeting existing ones.

Storytelling: At Ultraconfidentiel, each project is a story. The design language takes inspiration from each client’s identity, their culture, ethics, and goals, to create spatial tales in which visionaries thrive and ideas grow. Their work transforms workplaces into meaning-rich landscapes, with design serving as the narrator and people as the protagonist.

Evolution: From India to the World
Over the past 18 years, Ultraconfidentiel has grown from a small Delhi studio into a multi-country design and build firm, with 7 offices across 4+ countries and a team of over 130 architects, designers, and thinkers.

Their trajectory demonstrates a blend of scale and soul. They’ve built their reputation on artistry and creativity, combining timeless design techniques with current tools and data-driven insight.

Their ideals are not business clichés, but real ideas that govern each endeavor from conception to execution. They believe in inspiring brilliance by pushing the frontiers of design with integrity and purpose, as well as ethical transparency that fosters trust via clarity, collaboration, and accountability. With the motto of “think global, act local,” they bring international design standards to life while being strongly anchored in Indian sensibilities.

They use disruptive innovation to combine AI, data, and experimentation to constantly alter spatial experiences. Above all, their culture of ownership and devotion ensures that each project is handled with the same care, passion, and precision as if it were their own.

The Synthesis of Craftsmanship and Innovation
Ultraconfidentiel is at the crossroads of experience and innovation, combining classical accuracy with cutting-edge tools to create environments that encourage discourse, cooperation, and creativity.

In an age when design can become formulaic, Ultraconfidentiel’s work serves as a reminder that building is still about tales, emotions, and the subtle art of anticipation.
Workplaces as Cities, Rooms as Conversations
Ultraconfidentiel’s design language rarely appears in a single forceful stroke. It’s more of a patchwork of references: a piazza from Europe, the texture of Indian brickwork, and a client’s color obsession.

Their Brookfield Asset Management office in Mumbai feels more like a town square than a headquarters, with equal desks, scattered conference areas, and a central space where people bump into one another.

The arrangement is such, where people naturally congregate. Instead of rigid hierarchies, the office is democratic, with desks aligned with natural light, meeting spaces spread like market stalls, and a layout that promotes spontaneous interaction.

On the other hand, at Pernod Ricard, Gurgaon, the design is entirely focused on storytelling. Each corridor bears the imprint of Pernod Ricard’s global brands, from French vineyards to Australian landscapes.

Floors simulate soil textures, walls resemble wine barrels, and lighting changes to reflect terroirs. Walking into this office feels less like working and more like taking a tailored journey through history.

The IFC World Bank requested discipline, and Ultraconfidentiel replied with balance. Neutral tones, white oak veneers, and acoustic glass provide peace, while subtle brand colors add rhythm.

The design places collaboration islands in the center and silent concentrate zones on the periphery, choreographing work as a fluid sequence of choices.

Speaking about the Mankind Pharma Headquarters, with 125,000 square feet, this project could have engulfed intimacy. Instead, it evolved into a study of wellbeing and adaptability.

Research zones, cafés, collaboration hubs, and silent rooms coexist, reflecting the rhythms of the pharmaceutical industry itself. Corporate design is ecological.

Some clients reject their narrative-heavy approach, preferring safer, speedier solutions. Sometimes the firm bends, and sometimes it resists. They joke that design is similar to parenting a child, with sleepless nights, unexpected tantrums, and the odd proud moment when all comes together.
Looking Ahead
Their newest chapter is HYPRLAB, an experimental hub in New Delhi dedicated to exploring the intersections of AI, immersive technology, and material innovation.

It’s both a playground and a laboratory, where the studio may fail quickly, experiment wildly, and imagine futures before clients ask for them.

It foreshadows Ultraconfidentiel’s future direction: not simply building offices, but also developing physiological ecosystems – locations where digital layers enhance the physical experience.

Beyond Design: A Philosophy of Intimacy
Ultraconfidentiel’s story revolves around a simple but radical belief: places are emotional instruments. They don’t merely host activity; they also influence behavior, emotion, and memory.
This is why they concentrate over things that others overlook: the acoustic softness of a wall, the warmth of wood, the space between two chairs. These are not just afterthoughts. They are the cues that determine whether a setting is hostile or inviting.

“Ultra,” as they like to explain, “is not about being loud. It’s all about precision, going above and beyond expectations. What about ‘confidential’? It’s about being humble and allowing the space to speak for itself rather than the designer.”
Workplaces as Poetry
Ultraconfidentiel’s ascent is more than just the narrative of a design studio moving across countries. It’s about reinventing what a workplace can become. Where others see square footage, they see potential. Others stop at function; they insist on narrative. Where others settle for neutrality, they want connection. In their hands, a corridor may hold history, a desk can spark community, and a workplace can seem almost like home. And that is the real secret behind their name. The confidence is ultra. The magic, confidential.
