The complex was thoughtfully designed to integrate contemporary living into a historically and scenically unique environment.
Rather than erecting the single residential block permitted by the zoning plan, the architects opted for a condominium typology featuring two rows of low-rise units linked by a shared underground parking and service level. Nestled between these rows is a paved inner atrium that serves as the social heart of the complex. This semi-public courtyard encourages neighbourly interaction within a safe, controlled setting; an ideal layout for a community where many units serve as holiday homes.
Each unit spans three levels: the ground floor features living spaces that open onto private gardens via large glass doors; the upper floor houses the bedrooms; and the basement houses service rooms and provides direct garage access. The architecture reinterprets traditional motifs, utilising wooden details, rhythmic façade patterns, and pitched roofs, to give individual homes a distinct identity within a unified design.
Conceptually, the project builds upon the spatial proportions of the classic Gorenjska house, known for its gabled roof and simple composition. These archetypal elements are reinterpreted through modern spatial and technological principles, tailored to a site where compact urban forms meet open lake views. Despite the higher building density, the low, articulated structure follows the natural topography to mimic a dispersed settlement, successfully preserving the local scale and spatial feel.
The structure itself is built with chemical-free solid timber. Cross-laminated wooden panels joined by wooden dowels offer outstanding mechanical stability, long-term durability, and a healthy indoor environment. Ultimately, the blend of natural materials, wooden façades, and refined craftsmanship creates a warm interior atmosphere while allowing the building to integrate gracefully into Bled’s natural landscape.
