A home is something that speaks both about the traditional roots and also has hints of a modern living. This recent project of ours set in a serene surrounding in the city of Banglore is a harmonious visual of contrast, rustic charm and design philosophy. This villa design with slope roof creates an impression when we look at this traditional exterior.

The exterior is a juxtaposition of brick, concrete finish and stone texture that brings in the elements of both traditional and modern aesthetic. These contrasting elements are not just stylistic; they represent a thoughtful integration of old and new. The result is a facade that feels both welcoming and refined.

Material palette

The elevation brings a rich medley of exposed brickwork, handpicked local stone, and cast-in-place concrete. Each material serves both aesthetic and functional roles, layered together to create texture, depth, and harmony.

  • Brick facade with its timeless appeal, bestows a traditional exterior with a unique rhythm to the facade. Used in both horizontal courses and vertical accents, it gives the exterior an organic, lived-in quality that matures beautifully over time.
  • Stone, rough-hewn and raw, anchors along a window on the front that gives a sense of difference in texture.

Concrete gives a modern touch to this traditional facade. It is clean and linear, and acts as a visual counterpoint with a contrasting colour and texture.

Each material in the elevation compliments each other to bring out a wholesome traditional exterior. The mix of brick and concrete gives a subtle infusion of spaces from the outside. While, it also layers the semi-open and terrace areas under the roof eaves that keeps the family safe.

Spatial understanding

The interior dimensions of the home are understood with a detailed spatial presentation. This helps the clients visualise the plan in 3-Dimension and gives a feeling like walking through the plan along with an appropriate furniture arrangement. Here in this traditional house, there is a step down living area that adds a lovely touch to bring in a courtyard effect for the socialising area of the villa with slope roof.

A traditional exterior with slope roof is something that also resembles nostalgia and embodies vernacular architecture. The living space is given in double height to witness the slope roof from within the home too.

Inspired by east-facing house Vastu plans, the layout aligns with traditional spatial orientation principles. The villa with slope roof, finished with clay tiles, not only evokes nostalgia but also facilitates rainwater harvesting and natural thermal insulation.

Inside, the pitched ceiling over the first-floor bedrooms enhances volume and spatial drama. Clerestory windows tucked under the roofline allow soft daylight to filter through, minimizing the need for artificial lighting during the day.

The stepped-down living area along the French window brings in light to the entire space and creates a lovely ambience for the family to hangout.

Key areas that we loved designing about this traditional home:

  • A double-height living room that connects both levels visually and socially.
  • A custom concrete staircase with wooden accents—elegant, durable, and minimal.
  • Natural cross ventilation, passive cooling techniques, and a seamless indoor-outdoor flow through landscaped spill-out zones.
  • Villa with slope roof
  • Balcony and green pockets to bring the outdoors into the indoors

The clients also liked to have a separate lift to bring in sufficient daylight through the skylight. The rest of the private spaces including the bedrooms transition through the first floor keeping the ground floor restricted to the public and semi-public areas. The client was also Vastu-centric so we included a separate Puja room in the ground floor.
