Conceptually, the project aspired to create  layers of spaces that would enclose the primary built-mass. These layers are intended to act as buffers, creating climatically comfortable inner spaces. We have designed a grand Entrance with free standing walls. At the entrance, a double height volume which is open to sky welcomes the visitors. The double height volume differentiates internal spaces which are single height. This creates an intriguing spatial difference within the entrance level space.

The layers for the exterior facades have been changed to brick wall envelopes that are open to the sky. Externally, the brick wall serves as a light edge. Internally, the built mass opens up into a centric courtyard. The courtyard is likewise enveloped or encased by a brick wall. To avoid harsh sunlight, there are openings designed on the south and west sides. The openings are outlined as upright and inverted arches. An intriguing edge condition is created, as a result of composition of arches. The internal solid wall and the corridor floor exhibit interesting patterns of light and shadow during the course of the day. The interaction of light and shadow gives the interior areas a dynamic feel.

All the work areas are organised around an internal courtyard. Each place is buffered on the outside by a Light edge and opens into a Courtyard on the inside. Central internal courtyard serves a dual purpose of connecting internal rooms while also connecting with the green and the sky. The Courtyard and the Light edge contribute to the creation of an adequate buffer for the peaceful working of the indoor spaces.

Deep verandah spaces and corridors encloses the courtyard. The verandah area is frequently utilised throughout the day for unofficial gatherings. The seating space designed in the verandah provides a respite from the heat. Along from providing an interesting view of the corridor’s upright and inverted arches, it also shows how light and shadow move throughout the day.
