This elongated park, which is centrally located in a new residential area in Stockholm, is intended to act as a garden for the residents of the area. Featuring flowering trees, perennials, and various types of climbers, the park landscape was designed in close dialogue with these residents.

Surrounded by local streets with low speed limits, the park’s structure, which builds on a sequence of “garden rooms,” is intended to be robust yet also light and permeable, and to meet its surrounding with clearly delineated edges.

A long, steel pergola in various shades of green accommodates both seating and rooms that are variously dedicated to rest, play, and other activities. Perennial plantings and a hornbeam hedge transect the park, supporting the pergola structure.

A large room at the center of the park, containing long tables and a barbeque, provides space for neighborhood parties and picnics. The park also houses a fenced playground for children from nearby kindergartens.

NIVÅ LANDSKAPSARKITEKTUR:

Office/studio profile:

Nivå is a Stockholm based landscape architecture firm founded in 2000 by landscape architects Jonas Berglund, Åsa Drougge, and Göran Lindberg. The firm aims to create poetic, playful, and site-specific landscape architecture. They work within a design tradition that emphasizes spatial qualities and the importance of the local. In each project, they aspire to deepen the connection between analysis, concept, and material expression, creating contemporary landscape architecture that lasts. Their work is focused on public spaces at a range of scales, operating across the design of parks, gardens, squares, site studies, and landscape analyses. Nivå has extensive experience in design, investigation, and construction within landscape architecture.

From 2019, the initial partner group was expanded to include new partners Helena Emrani, Åsa Johansson, and Stina Hellqvist. Together with their staff, they are committed to develop the field of landscape architecture in line with the practice’s philosophy.
