The new Lecco Fire Station is designed as a low, permeable and monomaterial building capable of blending into the landscape thanks to the use of natural colors. The use of red tones also contains a symbolic value because it is linked to the National Fire Corps.

Even the planimetric plant has a double symbolic and functional value. In fact, the “C” configuration, in addition to defining a square and an open courtyard to the lake, symbolizes two open arms as a metaphor for protection and security.

The internal organization of the building is designed to optimize spaces and movements, allowing the fluidity of the routes. Many building environments such as offices and rooms are designed as open spaces, flexible and able to be reconfigured as needs change. The common areas also acquire the function of internal distribution spaces, in many cases replacing the classic corridors.

Open spaces play a fundamental role in the project. The square is the main meeting place that can be used for a large number of activities. The green zone that surrounds the building also offers the possibility of carrying out activities in contact with nature.

In terms of active technologies, a high energy performance project is set up using renewable energy. In terms of passive technologies, the planimetric layout has been carefully defined through the study of sunshine with the use of porticoes as a solar shading element for south-facing environments. Therefore the contribution of light and heat during summer is limited, maximizing the natural and passive energy intake.
