In the ultra-luxury enclave of DLF Camellias in the heart of Gurugram, this project envisioned a residence formed by merging two apartments into a single, cohesive home. Each intervention was carefully calibrated to enhance the living experience, culminating in expressions of design intent and deeply personal spatial narratives.

An Entrance of Significance: The Lift Lobbies

The journey begins with the lift lobbies, spaces often overlooked but pivotal in establishing the home’s identity. Inspired by the Japanese genkan, these areas provide a ceremonial transition, bridging the bustling city with the serenity of the home.

One lift lobby features custom wallpaper depicting Japanese skylines paired with a stone-topped console engraved with traditional inscriptions. The other showcases fluted marble planters and floating, hand-blown glass lights. In the dark, these lights—with their varying shapes and organic hues—evoke the impression of oceanic creatures floating mid-air. Together, these elements highlight craftsmanship and a sense of tranquil luxury.

The Wine Wall: A Global Collection with Localized Design

Central to the home is the wine wall, reflecting the family’s passion for travel and fine wine. Chiselled from stone, the wall incorporates a world map, with custom copper and wooden racks aligning the wine bottles geographically. Adjacent to this, the sake corner integrates a map of Japan as its backdrop, with tension-wire shelves and kanji-engraved accents creating an intimate space rooted in cultural identity.

A Parametric Bench: Sculptural Precision Meets Functionality

Opposite the wine wall lies the parametric bench, a functional sculpture crafted from birch ply and copper. Its flowing curves, reminiscent of organic forms, were realised through an iterative process of detailed prototyping. Each curve and dimension has been carefully adjusted to ensure both comfort and visual harmony. Assembled on-site from individual components, the bench embodies a meticulous approach to design and construction.

Amalgamating Art and Decor: A Personal Touch

In the formal dining and drawing spaces, curated art and decor bring the family’s personal stories to life. A series of custom commissions by renowned artist Paresh Maity reflect the family’s milestones and passions. These pieces are complemented by traditional carpets and sculptural furnishings, blending heritage with contemporary design.

Collaboration and Design Excellence

Each intervention in this project is guided by close collaboration with the client, from initial concepts to final execution. Whether refining the parametric bench or shaping the layered narrative of the wine wall, every detail was crafted to resonate with the family’s identity.
