NORNORM proudly presents its latest venture: an innovative collaboration uniting the premises of sustainability, adaptability, and circular design within the UNESCO world heritage site Zeche Zollverein located in Essen, Germany. In partnership with renowned industry leaders Arup and the visionary pioneers at Futur2k (F2K), this initiative stands as a tangible manifestation of circular buildings and office spaces, providing a glimpse into a future where design, sustainability, and flexibility converge harmoniously.

At the heart of this collaboration lies the circularity container “Building Block No. 1”, a bold prototype showcasing the transformative potential of circular architecture. Nestled within the historic Kokerei of the UNESCO world heritage site, the container forms part of a reusable building system known as ADPT, characterized by its modular elements with reversible connections. Emerging from the synergy of Arup and F2k, this innovative approach empowers buildings to adapt, morph, and evolve with an ever-changing world.

Aligning with NORNORM’s philosophy of agility, the container is furnished by NORNORM itself. NORNORM’s flexible office furniture solutions redefine traditional workspace paradigms with a fully circular subscription model and have transformed the container’s interior into a concrete expression of modern functionality. Embracing circularity, each piece of furniture is carefully maintained, refurbished, and reintroduced into the subscription cycle, minimizing waste and extending its functional life.

In a world dominated by degenerative business models, ADPT buildings and NORNORM’s Furniture-as-a-Service champion a common cause: setting an end to the global waste crisis caused by linear business models. ADPT structures evolve with us, granting freedom and resilience. They embody a circular economy, eliminating waste and allowing regeneration. NORNORM complements this with flexible furniture solutions, aligning seamlessly with ADPT’s ethos. Scaling effortlessly, it liberates businesses from hefty upfront costs and rigid commitments, promoting resource efficiency.
