Urbanization draws individuals to metropolitan hubs, yet their hearts remain tethered to their origins. This phenomenon has birthed residences crafted by returning natives after years of toil elsewhere.

Named Grand House, our project symbolizes a communal abode where siblings reconvene to care for their aging parents and reconnect with their cultural heritage. Designed to balance modernity and tradition, the spatial layout fosters both openness and privacy, tailored to individual needs while seamlessly integrating into the rural landscape. Descendants maintain proximity to ancestors, embracing a forward-looking lifestyle while honoring the past.

The architectural blueprint of Grand House revolves around a central courtyard, bridging indoor and outdoor spaces. This area doubles as a reception during regular days and expands into a communal space for celebrations, like crafting traditional Lunar New Year delicacies. Beneath the central staircase, a play area keeps children entertained without encroaching on private zones. Upstairs, a worship area preserves familial relics, flanked by bedrooms for returning siblings.

The double-layer structure, a nod to local architectural norms, incorporates terracotta ventilated brick for optimal shading against western sunlight. The terracotta hues blend seamlessly with the landscape and withstand adverse weather conditions, ensuring durability while maintaining aesthetic harmony with the surroundings.

Through a contemporary architectural lens, we subtly reimagine familiar spaces like verandas and courtyards, striving for simplicity and tranquility. Having traversed distant horizons, our return to the homeland beckons a longing for peace and familiarity, encapsulated in the essence of Grand House.
