The client, a second-generation Bengali who has lived in Kerala for the past 50 years, wanted to bring a little bit of Calcutta there. Hence, the décor also needed to be varied and eclectic. As a general principle, when designing a restaurant, we make sure that the ambiance of the space complements both the cuisine and the client’s vision. Our aim was to design a restaurant that serves food that is based on traditional recipes and caters to interiors that extol its distinctive philosophy.

Similar to the food it serves, the restaurant’s interiors transport you to regal charm with their throwback artwork and structure. Using paintings, vintage work inspired from bygone era and an alluring colour scheme, a regal atmosphere is unveiled.

While you embrace the authentic cuisine and ambiance of Kerala, a glance at the wooden panelled wall with an installation of vintage copper and brass objects entices the visuals, revealing the old-world charm. A fusion of vintage prints of famous landmarks from Calcutta, including the Howrah Bridge, Victoria Station, and others, decorated with antiques from Kerala, thus creating settings that, while maintaining a contemporary look, magically take the visitors to a bygone era.

One of the key components of the design is the lighting. In addition to ambient and general lighting, we also pay close attention to task lighting to ensure that productivity is not at all hindered to create vibrant, classic spaces that serve as one-of-a-kind settings for celebratory occasions, elegant dining, or just making enduring memories.

Being sustainable to the core, we always have wood pieces left over after making our own furniture that cannot be recycled. In this restaurant, all the scrap wood has been put to good use by being used to panel the walls, giving the space a warm and cosy backdrop to the restaurant.

Since the furniture was produced locally using local hardwoods, it can be recycled and reused. We also tried to use as many old Kerala antiques as we could.

While efficiency and functionality are key considerations when designing a restaurant because proper operation is directly related to the design of each component, another factor is making the best use of available space without detracting from the overall aesthetic.

The common thread of rich classic contemporary style evokes through the distinctive colour palette of the restaurant. The bold hue of deep red is complemented with white and is accentuated with the wooden wall shelves and dark brown toned furniture. The pendant lights evoked old colonial charm that complements the theme of the restaurant. A few greens along with metallic accents have also been introduced as quaint details enunciating a regal atmosphere.

It’s a cosy restaurant with wood-panelled walls and mouldings. Striving to design flawless, exquisitely detailed, and ageless spaces where form and function work together to evoke a sense of place in its inhabitants, the decor and food combine to create an enchanting atmosphere for dining and entertaining.
