A family of four moved into an apartment in the Highvill Ishim residential complex near the Presidential Park a few years ago. But the interior did not meet their needs and ideas about comfort: low ceilings made the rooms heavy, an awkward dressing room did not allow them to place things comfortably.
Project Name: Apartment in Astana
Studio Name: Kvadrat Architects
Project location: Astana (Kazakhstan)
Built area: 130 m2
Design year: 2023

On recommendation, the owners approached Rustam Minnehanov and Sergei Bekmukhanbetov with a request to renovate the space – they wanted to see it airy, light, free, and authentic.
The authors of the project were inspired by Asian aesthetics with its deep meaning hidden behind the minimum of objects, laconic forms and restrained color. At the same time, the interior did not become monotonous – the expressive ensemble of textures added versatility and volume.

Consonance of textures
The heart of the apartment is a square-shaped public area, where the living room, dining room and kitchen were placed. The marvelous lightness of the space is given by the white shade, complemented by wood finish. The designers paid special attention to textiles, selecting upholstery of upholstered furniture in pandan tone and texture of curtains. Such wholeness always makes a spectacular impression, creating the feeling of a cozy cocoon.
Structural features – a niche in the wall and a section in the furniture structure in the dining area – turned into stylish accents of the interior, being decorated with porcelain stoneware with terrazzo texture.

Sergey Bekmukhanbetov and Rustam Minnekhanov decided to redesign the bedroom, dressing room and storage systems. A balanced approach allowed them to build an ergonomic space, and now the six-meter walk-in closet and hidden closets in the bedroom cover all the storage needs of the owners.
The design of the private spaces also has an Asian flair, which adds depth, new meanings and energy to the minimalist interior.

The professionalism of the studio team allowed the bathroom to be transformed as well – it has increased in area, and a spacious cabinet for storing bathroom accessories now helps to easily maintain visual cleanliness.
