The challenge for this project was to create a family residence that could accommodate multiple generations while maintaining own privacy at each ‘house’.  Thus, 3 simple building blocks were formed with roof garden and multiple staircases and bridges linking at each floors.

In response to the site topography, a 20ft high sub-basement with ample open space was designed as the main entrance to the residence.  2 side doors besides were provided for storage and  maintenance  as well as the assistants’ working space and  rooms.  The dark grey granite clad wall and the stair provide a sense of weight and stability, furthermore breaking up the massing of the building.

To our delights, the client is a nature loving couple.  Together, we created a tropical oasis with big ponds, ample greens and natural ventilations.   Generally, the residence is split into 3 sections. 1 of the blocks even comes with internal stair. The model works as a mini private residence for the family member with its own en suite and pantry.

The centre of the residence revolves around the large open central kitchen at the ground floor.  It comes with an island kitchen counter cum dining table with the TV set facing the fountain and the pond.   It acts as the heart of the residence where family members gather to prepare and eat while enjoying the view. The big koi pond around the building also works as a coolant for the environment.

The tropical oasis continues on the upper floors with rooms opening into lush roof gardens. Some of the en suites even has outdoor showers. Lastly, a timber gazebo and a gym were housed at the highest floor facing the valley.
