With the world compressed into the tiny screens in our grip, it is easy for one to be estranged from real-life connections even when they are living in close proximity with the others.

This can be further worsened if one lives in a sizable house that underplays the importance of a communal space where everyone can come together and take delight in each other’s presence.
BY residence exhibits precisely the importance of well-thought interior design in defining the dynamics of a house, a large one at that.

Bonardy and Yvonne have a big family of seven living in a 970-square-meter house. With their wide range of ages, hence comes a variety of personal needs. “Residential projects have always been more about understanding people and their needs for us to translate them into spaces. It’s always personal,” explained Agatha Carolina, one of the interior designers in charge, of the thinking process behind the design of this three-story residence.

The design muse of the house was the family’s personality, characteristics and way of life. “We were very excited when we got this project. We love big family,” Agatha reflected on the experience. “This family also loves hosting and inviting friends. To accommodate this, the space needs to be extensive, flexible and open.” Making the home feels spacious was not a challenging feat considering the grand proportion of the house, but it was the flexibility and openness that would bank on Bitte’s craft.

Bonardy and Yvonne have always been drawn to modern and elegant design styles, so the interior was constructed to achieve that aesthetic. To enhance the elegance, Bitte explored the usage of wood for a tropical, warm feeling, and marble to put on luster. If one took a better look, the white walls and brass detailing that are infused throughout the space also add depth and define the look.

There has always been a preconception that large houses will only create a cold and distant space that cocoons the occupants in their own bubble, but as challenging as it is to break, the interior shows the exact opposite. “The first floor is dedicated to living and dining room, terrace, and swimming pool. The living and dining area are connected together with a big semi-outdoor terrace, overlooking the swimming pool,” explained Agatha.
