Situated within the dense urban fabric of Vadodara, Gujarat, the VidhyaVasu House is a
cherished ancestral home. The clients wanted a luxurious and unique residence within a compact 95m² site. At the same time, the home was to be tailored to the needs of elderly parents, prioritizing accessibility and integrating various modern amenities. A key requirement was a lift designed to accommodate a wheelchair user with an assistant.

In response, we designed a space that was rooted in accessibility and elevated by parametric precision and cutting-edge digital fabrication. The plan centralises services, allowing other spaces to branch out around them. The result is an open layout where interconnected spaces revolve around a transitional service core, positioned on an elevated floor with expansive openings on both adjacent facades. The design fosters a harmonious living environment by emphasising interdependence over self-sufficiency. Simultaneously, a parametric design language defines the home’s distinctive character.
Reflecting a contemporary sensibility, the residence bridges past and future, embodying the spirit of multi-generational living. Thoughtful detailing, refined materiality, and abundant natural light define the space. Expansive windows framed with planters blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, reinforcing a connection with nature. Strategically placed projecting gaps create a rhythmic play of solids and voids, reminiscent of stacked blocks, adding depth and spatial intrigue.
Despite the constraints of the site, the G+3 layout efficiently accommodates diverse functions, maximizing both utility and openness. The residence features a generous foyer, parking for two cars, a backyard garden, a spacious living area, a serene yoga room, and a well-appointed kitchen. It also includes three elegantly designed bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and walk-in wardrobes, along with a sheltered terrace.
The main entrance comprises the expansive foyer and parking level. These lead to a stairwell that connects to the upper living spaces. A charming porch and an internal foyer provide access to the lift. At the heart of the residence, a sculptural spiral staircase serves as both a structural and aesthetic focal point, elevating the home’s spatial experience.
Inside, the material palette introduces a harmonious blend of tones and playful contrasts,
enhancing the structure’s verticality and its connection to the neighborhood skyline. Whimsical yet muted blues and pinks in the living room transition into bold black and brown shades in the kitchen, unified by neutral grey and white across the floors and walls. Green planters strategically placed throughout the home reinforce its dialogue with nature.
Each bedroom is curated with its own unique color palette, reflecting the personality of its
occupant. The master bedroom is defined by shades of blue with subtle hints of pink. A refined yet visually captivating detail is the textured corner wall with concentric circles.
The secondary bedroom embraces parametric design through a custom-crafted curtain backdrop, serving as a bold design feature. Leveraging digital fabrication techniques like CNC machining, laser cutting, and water jet cutting, the design integrates precision with fluidity, bringing intricate patterns and forms to life. A pastel color palette and minimalist furnishings amplify its elegance, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere.
The bathrooms, though compact, are designed with larger windows to evoke a sense of
spaciousness. This thoughtful integration of light and openness across the home elevates the occupants’ experience, thoughtfully balancing practicality with refined elegance.
