The project arises from the need to redefine the dynamics of use and appropriation of a large backyard in a residential property, creating an ideal environment for gatherings, rest and meditation—an intimate space that allows for the enjoyment of the outdoor essence: sun, shade, wind and rain, all within a private setting.
Project Name: Pérgola La Paz

To address these needs, the design proposes the construction of a sloped roof covering the entire patio, with a partially movable section. This feature enables the space to adapt to the city’s diverse weather conditions and accommodate a variety of activities, effectively transforming a single outdoor area into multiple ambiances.

While it is impossible to reposition the sun, strategies can be devised to shift the shade in our favor. This principle becomes a central axis of the design, optimizing both comfort and functionality.

To enhance the versatility of the space, a peripheral service system was implemented, allowing for seamless integration and maximizing openness. The proportions of each functional element interweave naturally, enabling extensive and simultaneous use while maintaining a fluid adaptable environment.

The selection of materials, colors, artificial lighting, vegetation, and the careful control of the pergola’s projected shade all contribute to an enhanced sense of environmental comfort. This careful balance between built elements, nature and climate conditions fosters a harmonious dialogue, resulting in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
