Situated in the dynamic Worli area of Mumbai, this residence offers a peaceful retreat that blends modern luxury with classic Greek design elements. A haven of serenity amidst the chaos of the city, this residence was designed after a simple request by the owner who wanted a space that embodied understated luxury, with an emphasis on refined, contemporary whites and subtle elegance.

Designer Shimona Bhansali was inspired to make the project after visiting the beautiful Greek island of Santorini. “Zephyr” translates to “western winds,” quite apt in describing the soothing inspiration that sculpted the home’s design.
The design team has worked to create an aesthetic inspired by Greek colours with the palette drawing the essence of the vista that is such an integral part of Mediterranean landscapes: the warm, earthy tones of rust-orange and fiery reds against the iconic blues of Greece. Every room at The Zephyr looks at Greek design as a fusion, where bright colours, rich textures, and intricate patterns blend together to tell an old-world aesthetic meeting new-world opulence.
One of the challenges while designing was that two separate apartments were combined to make one expansive unit, so it resulted in a symmetrical floor plan. The team successfully capitalized this aspect by ensuring a well-lit home that had a source of sunlight come inside the rooms, along with ample cross ventilation that perfectly aligned with the “Zephyr” concept.
The materials used throughout the home are a balanced mix of texture and tone. In many places, soft sophisticated colours create the perfect background to highlight art, wallpaper, and decor elements. Bespoke rugs, however, are the true showstoppers of this home. Hand-knotted and inspired by the vibrant colour palette of Greece, they infuse the interiors with energy and character, breathing life into every corner.

The team at DesignHex carefully designed every little detail of this place — from the colour palette hand-designed to complement the theme, to custom rugs — every strand narrates a story. Situated deep within the heart of Mumbai’s chaotic urban sprawl, The Zephyr offers a peaceful retreat to its inhabitants — an oasis of Greek paradise — that proves that thoughtful design can bring tranquility into the heart of even the most frenetic city.
