A SPACE ABOUT, the Barcelona-based interior and product design studio founded by Laura Blanch and Noa Massanet, has led the renovation of Bloss Barcelona, formerly known as Hair by Sergio. The prestigious hairdressing firm opened its doors in May 2021 in the heart of Barcelona’s Eixample district and has become a national icon in hair care.

Bloss Barcelona is a contemporary and minimalist space that embodies Mediterranean culture with unique elements inspired by the city, such as the volta catalana or ceramic tiles. The founders of A Space About emphasize the values of returning to roots through the purity of materials, simplicity, and attention to detail. They aimed to create a distinctive, elegant, relaxing, and comfortable environment—an oasis for hair care.

The project’s color palette draws inspiration from the natural tones of clay and earth used in hair dyeing, creating a warm and minimalist design. The focus on textures and eco-friendly materials aligns with Bloss Barcelona’s commitment to environmental sustainability and healthier hair treatments, particularly their specialization in natural keratin treatments in partnership with Goa Organics.

The design features bespoke furniture and meticulously crafted details. Curved walls, arches, oval mirrors, and sinuous curtains contribute to visual comfort, while a sound-absorbing ceiling material enhances acoustics. The rounded shapes, subtle materials, and neutral color palette reflect the current Japandi trend—a fusion of Japanese Zen harmony, minimalism, and the warmth of Scandinavian style.

The lighting design incorporates hidden LEDs and indirect lighting to create a spa-like ambiance, promoting relaxation for clients. Direct ceiling lighting ensures optimal conditions for professionals working with hair dye colors.

Architecturally, the renovation aimed to optimize the 140-square-meter space, providing a functional and aesthetically pleasing layout with seamless movement for the staff and accessibility for all. The headwash area is distinguished by a change in color, materials, and lighting, creating a distinct space within the salon. Bloss Barcelona now includes elegant bathroom and wardrobe areas, while the entrance sets a serene tone with a white environment, offering a transition from the street’s noise and hustle.

A SPACE ABOUT, led by Laura Blanch and Noa Massanet, brings a multidimensional and holistic approach to design projects. With a focus on client needs and current trends, they aim to empower brands and drive their success. Collaborating with artisans and entrepreneurs in Barcelona, the studio creates a community of professionals stimulating the interior design sector.
