Inspired by the unique nature of the area, the architects of the KPLN architectural bureau created a passenger terminal, combining functional features and the aesthetics of the shape of fir seeds.

Architectural solutions

The triangular-shaped building with rounded corners is designed taking into account the natural landscape. The design will use elements reminiscent of the local flora: wooden columns at the entrance are stylized as pine needles, and the green roof and inner courtyard-atrium enhance the connection with the environment.

“Our task was to design not just a functional airport, but a real entrance portal to the mountain world, which immediately immerses guests in the atmosphere of Arkhyz. The organic forms of the building, the green roof, wooden supports stylized as coniferous branches, and the courtyard with living trees – all these elements create a sense of unity with the surrounding nature. In this project, we managed to harmoniously combine modern transport technologies with the unique spirit of the Caucasian region,” – says Sergey Nikeshkin, partner and chief architect of the KPLN bureau.

Layout and services

The terminal is divided into functional zones: the entrance group – the check-in area, the waiting room, retail outlets and food court, the security screening area, the VIP lounge and the departure zone with panoramic glazing, which offers a view of the runway and mountains, as well as a baggage claim area connected by an underground gallery to the exit.

The infrastructure includes two jet bridges for accelerated boarding, a spacious parking lot and a landscaped area with recreation areas.

Sustainability and visual concept

The central element of the terminal is a glazed atrium with an artificial hill and live fir trees, symbolizing the natural environment of Arkhyz. The use of natural materials (wood, greenery) emphasizes the environmental focus of the project.

The airport combines the practicality of a modern hub with aesthetics that refer to mountain landscapes, providing passengers with comfort and a pleasant experience of the atmosphere of the place.
