The Agastyeshwara temple‘s inscriptions on the stones date to around 1100 CE and are written in the antiquity script “Naga Lipi.” One of the most well-known temples in the city, it is situated in Old Guntur. According to legend, Agastya constructed the temple in the final Treta Yuga around the swayambhu linga, giving it this name. The “Nagas allegedly dominated the historical period.” The areas around R.Agraharam and Old Guntur are thought to be the oldest in the city. The area has a long history of Buddhist practice, including the first Kalachakra ritual conducted by Gautama Buddha.
