In a quest to bring the spirit of Tulum to the tranquil beaches of Goa, Laval Areosa came to life—a seaside sundowner that embodies the essence of tropical design. The color scheme, a tribute to coastal elegance, blends sunset shades, earthy tones and lively greens into a harmonious palette that reflects the surrounding landscape.

Perfect for evening cuppas and sundowners, the space is designed around the incredible beach views guests can enjoy. The 5000 sqft space spans three levels, each intended to offer a distinct experience. The primary level serves as an indoor convertible lounge, the pièce de résistance being a 270m breathtaking, layered, fringe ceiling installation in orange and beige hues that mimic the sun and sand.

Moving towards the beach, the two lower levels have a garden-like ambiance, with bamboo and thatch ceiling installations, natural cane lighting, and Jacuzzis nestled within lush greenery that blends seamlessly with the coastal environment. The goal was to create various seating pockets for guests to choose from, no matter their mood—whether sitting by the ledge watching the waves, surrounded by plants, lounging in a Jacuzzi, or even soaking in it! There’s something for everyone.

Soft, airy fabrics in calm pastel shades complement the muted earthy tones and vibrant greens, capturing the essence of coastal living. The design was heavily influenced by the natural surroundings, as the restaurant is a beachfront space that we wanted to maximize with the beautiful sunset views. We focused on using colors that mirror the sun, sand, water, and, of course, the abundance of greens. The uninterrupted ocean view is a major highlight. In terms of design, the placement of Jacuzzis at both ends of the restaurant, facing the beach, is one of our favorite features. Guests can enjoy a dip while taking in the breathtaking sunset. The floor seating along the space was also carefully planned to bring people closer to sea level, allowing for an immersive view of both the rippling water and the undulating waves. The base of the Jacuzzis features tropical murals, paired with rustic green, cement-finished flooring. Surrounded by gently swaying palms, our beachside retreat offers a captivating, magical experience that effortlessly combines nature with design in an idyllic Goan setting.

The restaurant is within an old beach resort, and we were brought in to completely revamp the space. We had to redesign the entire space while retaining the old framework. A key task was reinforcing the old wooden beams to support the weight of the elaborate ceiling installations we planned. We did away with the old flooring, which was in poor condition, and reworked part of the layout to ensure a smooth flow between the levels.

Throughout the project, we experimented with a variety of materials and finishes, always keeping the desired aesthetic in mind. We explored rustic textures, concrete finishes, and lime washes, as well as different flooring options. The material selection was strictly natural, using elements like wood, bamboo, cane, natural thatch, and lightweight linen fabrics. We made sure to avoid any materials that wouldn’t stand the test of time. The coming together of the various textures for this project has been nothing short of refreshing.
