This project came to us almost as a clean slate — a bare-shell home owned by a Maharashtrian couple who had made their nest in it years ago but never had it designed.
Project Name: The Pilot project
Studio Name: CASA Alankar

Their brief was simple: maximize storage and maintain a subtle, neutral palette. However, during our early discussions, it became clear that they were also open to a touch of colour, though not inclined toward warm-toned neutrals.

We found common ground in the idea of a tropical-inspired design, choosing to incorporate a unique tropical hue in each room, balanced against a neutral base. This approach allowed every space to have its own identity, expressed through a highlight element—be it a wallpaper, an accent wall, or custom wall art.

The furniture design follows a modern aesthetic with soft curves, which not only brings character but also ensures child-friendly functionality for their young daughter. Every corner was thoughtfully utilized, blending utility and visual appeal: a whiteboard panel in the kids’ room, hidden storage in the service duct, and a rafter-panelled feature wall in the living room that acts as both a decorative backdrop for numerous parties that the couple loves to host.

Ample walking space was retained to allow the family to interact with their home informally. The result is a home that seamlessly integrates aesthetics and functionality, catering thoughtfully to the needs and lifestyles of both adults and their child across not just their respective rooms but across the entire house.
