The design journey of The Ivory House in Gurugram is a heartfelt story of friendship and
thoughtful design. The client, a close friend of the TOD team, made the project deeply
meaningful. “Working with a dear friend turned this into more than just a project; it felt like creating a home for an extended family,” says Ar. Ritu. This close connection allowed the team to understand the family’s needs and desires intimately.
Project Name: The Ivory House

Area: 3200 sq.ft.

Designing for this small, loving family with a toddler and a dog—meant creating a space where comfort and daily life blend seamlessly. With the client’s architectural background and a clear vision for clean lines and simplicity, the TOD team embraced a Scandinavian approach. By using natural materials and minimalist design, they created spaces that genuinely reflect the family’s lifestyle and cherished memories.
FOYER:
As you enter the house, you’re greeted by warmth and a sense of openness. To the right, a bookshelf gently defines the entrance from the living room. This not only acts as a partition but also adds a decorative touch. Combining wood and black metal, the bookshelf features a mix of open and closed storage, with woven cane details bringing an earthy touch.

In front of the bookshelf partition, the wall displays travel photos and cherished memories. The client’s passion for travel and adventure is beautifully captured here. It not only adds a personal touch but also serves as a conversation starter, infusing the space with nostalgia.
LIVING AREA:
Moving a few steps further, you enter the entertainment hub of the home—the living room,
where family and friends can gather, celebrate, and make memories. This spacious area,
centred around a large seating arrangement with a TV and sofa, invites you to relax and
socialise. Nestled tables blend seamlessly with the subtle backdrop, enhancing the inviting
atmosphere and making the space perfect for gatherings. Furthermore, the space opens up to a balcony, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor living.
As you step back inside, a wooden swing with soft fabric cushions gently swings, which gracefully transitions the flow from the living room to the dining space.
DINING AND BAR:
In the dining area, a large table that seats ten takes centre stage, becoming the hub for family meals. We experimented with materials by using a stucco-cast tabletop, which adds a touch of elegance. In the corner, a bar invites you to linger over casual drinks and conversation, with fluted elements introducing a refined character to the subtle environment.

KITCHEN:
From the dining space, a corridor leads to the kitchen, where a wall adorned with family photos, framed by mouldings, adds a nostalgic touch.
The client loves cooking and spending time in the kitchen, which inspired its design as a
secondary gathering hub for the home. This space is perfect for conversations over a glass of wine or cooking with family.
The kitchen’s spacious and open design embraces Scandinavian simplicity. Light green tones and sleek black handles create a serene atmosphere. At the centre, a large wooden veneered island serves both as a preparation area and a casual dining space, with vibrant orange chairs adding a lively contrast. Ample natural light enhances the space, making it ideal for creating lasting memories.

MASTER BEDROOM:
Entering the master bedroom, you find a harmonious blend of tranquillity and vibrancy. Burnt orange accents from the bed introduce lively energy, while ombre curtains gently diffuse natural light, creating a peaceful environment. The wall behind the bed, adorned with subtle mouldings, adds character without overpowering the serene design.
Large windows bathe the room in light, making it feel airy and open. A cosy sitting area nearby invites you to unwind and bask in the sunlight. On the opposite side, a study table tucked into a functional corner accommodates work-from-home needs while maintaining the room’s overall calmness.
KIDS BEDROOM:
Adjacent to the memory wall, you enter the children’s room, where bright colours and playful pink accents create a lively atmosphere.
The bed is integrated into a large storage unit, keeping the room tidy while providing ample space for toys and clothes. A roof-shaped niche adds an element of adventure, while a small fence-like toy storage helps organise soft toys, instilling a sense of responsibility.

The walls are adorned with whimsical animal wallpaper, adding a fun element. A blackboard, designed at toddler height, encourages creative play, while various shapes and forms in the space stimulate the child’s imagination, making the room a vibrant and inspiring area for growth.
