The GC apartment, on one level, is mostly oriented to south-west and has a trapezoidal plan, which is not not so easy to layout and furnish. Moreover, the apartment has two entrances: an internal one from the building and a private one from outside. Large windows provide views of the wide garden and the landscape of Rovereto and the Adige valley.

The custom-made furniture project concerns the living and sleeping areas, the study room and the garden. The design of the living area was inspired by the passing hall (portego) of the ancient Venetian palaces, reinvented in a contemporary way. The sizeable living room, with a Venetian Terrazzo floor, is overshadowed by a wide design island couch and just like a passing hall connects the communal entrance with the private one. The living room creates a seamless space  with the kitchen and study room, both of which feature irregularly shaped island furniture with calacatta gold marble counter-tops.

From the kitchen’s window, one of the largest in the house,  one can see the pergola with the outdoor kitchen. The home office room is a real multifunctional space, it works as a wardrobe (and in the future as a second room) and as an additional access to the private garden. The outdoor space runs between a narrow passageway, paved in Venetian Terrazzo floor and lined with hedges and terraces at different levels, and the larger part of the garden, where aromatic plants, vegetable garden plants and a magnolia tree find their place in the sunniest area and hydrangeas, ivy, and azaleas in the shadiest one.

The design emphasizes the spatial features of the apartment: the trapezoidal shape of the plan is solved by custom made furniture that runs along the walls like ribbons, by irregularly shaped pieces of design furniture that stand out in the middle of the living room, by large windows and French doors that frame the garden. The custom-made furniture, made in canaletto walnut wood, the fabric of the sofa and the beds are enhanced by the colour of the furnishing’s finish, sometimes in a pale pearl gray sometimes in a white shade. Furthermore the finishes colour complemented the light beige of the Venetian Terrazzo floor well.

Canaletto walnut wood is also used on the walls in the sleeping area and the same finishes’ colours of the living area are used for the fabrics, giving the rooms a full feeling of peacefulness. In the bathrooms the Venetian terrazzo is used for the floor, and for the showers too, while resin is used on the walls. In the guest bathroom, located near the main entrance, a colourful freestanding washbasin mirrors itself in a reflected wall… with a secret: it hides a shower visible only by turning on a dedicated light!

The lighting design uses a few in-line LED lighting fixtures, aligned with the beams’ edge. They wash the beams with light and give the spaces an evocative and abstract atmosphere. LED spotlights, able to enhance the brightness of the space in the evening and night hours, complete the light project. On the dining table and in the study,  two stunning chandeliers made of blown glass attract the visitors’ attention to the two fulcrums of family life. The sofa together with the two island furniture create a sort of “internal landscape” of the apartment: they recall the idea of islands (!) scattered across a pond.
