The clients wanted to connect the spacious attic of a heritage building in the historic center of Ljubljana to their existing apartment. The task required advanced structural interventions, as well as an addition of a new staircase in the entrance area of the apartment.

The new interventions include 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and an additional living room. Interventions carefully incorporate the existing wooden load bearing truss system.

Interventions have a contemporary design language, but are relating to the heritage context of the existing built environment. Materials used have a timeless quality to them.

The two main materials are black oxidized metal (process of “bluing”), and solid oak, which relates to the local context, as it is a widely used type of wood in this region.
