iSUPERMATERIALI – the exhibition conceived and curated by Armando Bruno, Studio Marco Piva’s CEO – in D5 hall of Rimini’s fair, tells the story of a triple encounter between nature, man and material: a connection marked by mathematics and beauty. If on the one hand the future requires us to rethink the relationship of man with nature, on the other hand matter plays a fundamental role in this context of renewed changes.

What guided Studio Marco Piva in the conception of the project were the perspective moments of the past ranging from Architecture to Art: Borromini’s fake perspective at Galleria Spada; the visionary Danteum never built; Michael Heizer’s site specific installations; Le Corbusier’s Modulor.

The concept behind iSUPERMATERIALI is to rationalize a space – between mathematics, architecture and beauty – to tell the story of the first processing of the material: the goal was to create a sustainable exhibition through essential elements with strong symbolic power. The first supermaterial is the earth, the surface first touched and marked by man and his primeval passage.

This is the inspiration for the selected color palete: tones that oscillate between reds and browns. Historically it is the land that has offered the architect – primitive man – the materials of nature and present day combined with technology and innovation giving it a new synthesis in favor of sustainability and resilience.

Elementary geometries that are transformed into essential display elements: large surfaces that recall the archaic forms of the primitive processing of the material; exhibitors that enhance the supermaterials in its fullness by showing its performance.

The totems – displays of the 200 sqm exhibition area – are told through the Fibonacci numbers due to their size in succession; with their 3 meters in high, they are an exclusive space to display and narrate the materials of each partner company, creating optical narrow corridors: a new architectural labyrinth. The exhibition space conceived by Studio Marco Piva therefore becomes immersive and at the same time loose, free of constraints: the viewer of the exhibition is free to lose themself inside it and view it from outside at any time.

Supermaterials are the essential ingredients for the recipe for a future and sustainable architecture: new materials and surfaces with evolved shapes and extraordinary properties, which conquer design with their imperfections.

The concept itself of new materials and supermaterials is inextricably linked to that of modernity. In the history of architecture, the introduction of innovative materials and techniques has for centuries followed the logic of gradual changes, responding to new functional, performative, aesthetic and stylistic needs.

Each material is a product, a natural and at the same time artificial artifact, marked by the intervention of man to respond to new functional, performative, aesthetic and stylistic needs.

The task of the human being, whose hand is always looking for new possibilities and new design inspirations to transform the world, is to emphasize the nature’s gifts, its own materials. In a dynamic and never steady reality, natural and artificial resources are the great opportunities available to architecture and shown in iSUPERMATERIALI.
