Our client requested that in developing our design for his apartment that we take into consideration the design sensibility of Tom Ford and Halston and two words and or concepts, cocoon and nook.

The existing apartment had not been renovated since the building was built in the ’60’s and had a living room, dining space, kitchen, master bedroom with on suite bathroom, a second bedroom and a separate full bath.
The second bedroom was to be a combination, den/ office, guest bedroom. Our client wanted an apartment that was conducive to entertaining and would include a bar and the lighting should be as if the space was lit by candle light.
Taking our cues from our client, we developed a rich palette of materials to create cohesive, yet individual spaces. The floor is a reclaimed oak fence which has been stained and laid in a chevron pattern reminiscent of a parisian apartment. Walls are painted three different shades of grey, the containers are lacquered in a deep highly reflective black which reflects light and the surrounding city views.
The kitchen counter and back splash are Kenya Black stone with an extremely figurative veining and the cabinetry is all black lacquer. The master bathroom is a mix of materials, white glassos, grey tinted mirror, shades of grey paint, ebonized oak, and Equator Marmara.
The guest bathroom is also a mix of materials, hand plastered walls with a wax finish, Equator Marmara floor, wall and tub enclosure with a custom stone sink.
Originally, the apartment was segmented by walls into traditional spaces. We removed the division and created spaces that flow from one to the other defined by three containers containing the master closet and nook, the bar and storage and the refrigerator/ave equipment. The overall design creates intimate cozy spaces through the use of space and materials.
