Tucked away in the lower back corner of a handsome Art Deco pre-war coop in Chelsea, this apartment had been long neglected and untouched for at least thirty years. The spaces were tight and airless.

In the design, we sort to open up the spaces along the window wall, expanding the individual rooms into neighboring spaces without loosing necessary function.
An expansive unusable gallery space was divided between the entry hall and a dining alcove over the sunken living room by a new book shelf.
The existing bathroom was expanded and a ensued bathroom was added to the master bedroom.
