Today, most of the city’s landmarks were not built until the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The Round Square ensemble was created during that period. It is a scaled-down counterpart of Palace Square in St. Petersburg and Ukraine’s most well-known Russian classicist architectural complex. The Glory Monument was erected in the middle of the square to mark the 100th anniversary of the illustrious triumph. This area later saw the creation of the city’s biggest park, a popular hangout for locals and visitors to Poltava.
