How Can One Become An Architect?

Generally, there are four types of architects – Technical Architect, Planning Architect, Site Architect & Design Architect. These are the most common types of architects & the names are pretty self-explanatory, from planning technical aspects of a building to actually designing the entire building, there is a lot you can do. Let’s move on to how you can become an architect –

  1. Choosing the right stream after 10th – It is essential that after 10th Grade you choose science as a stream, only after that can you think about becoming an architect. Apart from the fact that you need science with math to qualify for higher studies as an architect, it is also essential that you understand physics well.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree – The next step after high school will be to get your bachelor’s degree. The most common degree that you can opt-in for is – a Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) degree. You can also opt in for special programs like – a Bachelor’s in Engineering and Architectural Design, Bachelor of Engineering in Landscape Architecture, BSc/BA in Architecture Technology & Construction Management & BA (Hons) in Interior Architecture & Design.
  3. Applying for work – After you finish your bachelor’s you should aim to pass the Architect Registration Examination & then look for work under a firm, architect or an internship where you can learn the craft a bit better.
  4. Get a license – The final step is to get a license. You have to first register with the Council Of Architecture (COA) & then pass the exam. After this, you can open your own practice or apply for a master’s.
