Glyn Davis Building, the award-winning home of the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning and Melbourne School of Design. Completed in 2014, this building was designed as a living and learning educational tool. Its spaces give insight into construction, design and fabrication techniques, from the exposed structural beams underneath the central Y-shaped staircase, to a viewing window in the basement’s plan room that allows you to observe the internal workings of the building. Our building is home to the Bachelor of Design, eight masters by coursework programs and our research degrees. It’s also home to nine research hubs, centres and institutes that help solve real world problems.

All university employees and students are welcome to use this makerspace because technology is increasingly reshaping our future professions. You can investigate, experience, experiment, and push the limits of cutting-edge technologies here.

With reproductions of images from the extensive Cultural Collections of the University outside, the visual effect is immediate. These visuals are ambiguous and invite inquiry and interpretation, much like the investigative and illumination processes that underlie learning and discovery.

The new structure, which has seven stories and is located on Professors Walk next to the historic Old Arts Faculty Building, gives the University’s Arts Precinct a committed, excellent teaching and learning environment. With a focus on informal learning spaces and the use of space as a catalyst for the formation of learning communities, the creative design has a direct impact on how the Bachelor of Arts is taught.
