One of the most exciting projects we’ve had the privilege to design was the remodeling of a house built in 1940. Over the years, this home had undergone several renovations, but our clients wanted to take it even further.
Project Name: Ermita House
Studio Name: Mano de Santo
Location: Godella, Valencia (Spain)
Year: 2022
Built surface: 320m2
Photographer: Diego Opazo

While the exterior required clear intervention to optimize the spaces and add a small pool, the interior was in perfect condition. Our key objectives were to enhance natural light, reveal the existing construction’s personality, and optimize the flow of interior spaces.

The house is located on Plot Number 9 of Ermita Square, in the heart of Godella’s urban center. This area is part of an architectural ensemble where the Ermita de Godella stands out. The urban structure of the surroundings is of great interest due to its garden city design and the presence of numerous mid-20th-century villas, some of which are classified and protected as historical heritage.

Rather than fragmenting the spaces, we proposed an open spatial organization while preserving the original house structure. We removed the coffered ceiling to increase the visual volume and allow unrestricted light flow through the south facade.

Additionally, we designed a new sculptural staircase for easy access from the main floor to the lower level, leading directly to the backyard. There, a porch area with a pool and carefully planned landscaping enhances the beauty of the environment.
