Cagliari’s hotel scene is now enriched with the remarkable addition of the five-star Palazzo Tirso hotel. The grand and historic structure, dating back to the 1920s and formerly serving as the headquarters of Società Elettrica Sarda, has been acquired by Puddu Costruzioni Group. They entrusted Studio Marco Piva with the responsibility of handling the interior architecture and design.

The hotel officially opened its doors at the end of May 2023, following a meticulous redevelopment that involved a change in function while preserving the building’s historical essence. Palazzo Tirso is now part of the renowned Accor chain.

Armando Bruno, the Founding Partner & CEO of Studio Marco Piva, and Ferdinando Tedesco, the Chief Interior Designer, oversaw the interior architectural and design work. Their collective efforts successfully created a design that honors the authenticity of the location.

The design concept revolves around striking a balance between the building’s historical elements and the innovation of the new additions. The proposed design establishes a connection with the building’s past, carefully preserving and enhancing sections of the original structure to maintain a sense of continuity. This approach allows guests to immerse themselves in the history and elegance of Palazzo Tirso while enjoying the modern luxuries and technologies offered by a five-star hotel.

The redevelopment of the building itself serves as a testament to sustainability and ethics, with efforts made to optimize and minimize environmental impact. This includes the use of locally sourced or state-of-the-art materials, energy-efficient LED lighting, streamlined scenarios to reduce consumption, resource optimization through technology, and the incorporation of green architecture that complements the area’s traditional charm.

The new hotel boasts a distinctive design, with a majority of the furniture and lighting being custom-made to perfectly align with the design narrative. The combination of these bespoke elements, the expressive richness of the carefully chosen materials, and the inspiration drawn from the local surroundings imbue the project with a strong and original personality.
