The project was designed for a family of four returned from the US, every piece of furniture they owned was a piece of their story, furniture that had witnessed milestones, travels, and countless memories. This emotional connection became the foundation of Project #2203 at Valmark Apas, Bangalore. The design intent was not merely to furnish a home but to craft an environment that celebrated the family’s journey, blending cherished heirlooms with a renewed sense of lightness and sophistication.

LOAM Architects envisioned a Neo-Classical interior language delicately infused with contemporary sensibilities, one that values symmetry, proportion, and quiet elegance while accommodating the rhythms of modern living. The client’s desire for a shift away from the weight of dark wooden finishes led to a palette that embraced light, softness, and refinement. A serene white base became the canvas for subtle trims, delicate moldings, and refined detailing, while formerly bulky furniture was reimagined through slender decorative profiles and modern reinterpretations. This approach transformed the home into a haven of nostalgia and new beginnings, where every space radiates familiarity yet feels refreshingly renewed, imparting an airy sophistication to every space.

Beginning from a bare shell, this project became a true blank canvas—an opportunity to reimagine the home from the inside out. By redefining the floor plan and correcting the wonky outer walls, the layout was transformed into one that feels purposeful, fluid, and architecturally harmonious. The design narrative unfolds thoughtfully from the entrance, where a bespoke metal arch creates a sense of arrival and transition. A hand-painted artwork cleverly conceals functional ducts, turning a technical necessity into an artful gesture, while perforated metal details in the shoe rack blend practicality with visual intrigue.

The customised mirrored wall in the foyer amplifies light and enhances the sense of space, setting the tone for the airy sophistication that flows through the home. In the living area, restrained wall trims form subtle rhythms, framing the space without overpowering it. The TV unit draws inspiration from the family’s love for travel, serving as a curated showcase for cherished keepsakes and souvenirs collected over the years. These personal artefacts add warmth and familiarity, transforming the living area into a meaningful extension of their journey. An open layout, complemented by wide French windows, invites abundant natural light and creates a seamless connection between the indoors and the outdoors.

The pooja room becomes a highlight of craftsmanship and devotion, featuring a tri-fold laser-etched glass door with floral motifs and an intricately engraved idol of Lord Venkateswara. Above, an acrylic Shree Chakra ceiling detail diffuses light gently, transforming the space into a quiet sanctum of faith and artistry. The dining and kitchen zones extend the same visual language with continuity and restraint. The introduction of low partitions with glass blocks allows light to flow seamlessly, while the kitchen embraces a more contemporary vocabulary, glass-acrylic shutters, lacquered finishes, and a quartz countertop offer clean lines and modern efficiency without compromising on aesthetic coherence.

In the private zones, a deeply personal touch defines the experience. The master bedroom integrates refurbished family furniture, carrying forward the narrative of memory while aligning it with the new design ethos. Fluted wall panels add texture and tactility, and wardrobe shutters with copper-foiled glass inserts bring a muted metallic warmth that complements the calm tonal palette. The children’s bedrooms reinterpret classical details through playful proportions, with fluted wainscoting and trims creating rhythm and unity across the spaces. The entire home’s material and lighting strategy was conceived as an orchestration of layers. Each detail was conceived as a distinct layer, coming together to form a cohesive and harmonious whole.
