A young couple wanted to redesign a floor of their residence for themselves with a carpet area of about 3000 sq.ft. They wanted a family lounge area, a master bedroom, a kid’s bedroom for 2 girls, a kids play area, powder washroom and an office space. The idea was to provide a sense of modern vibrant luxury with sleek minimal elements and bold colours for the couple with some playfulness for the young kids.

As we enter the floor, we walk into a large foyer area which leads to all the zones of the house. Towards the front are the kids play area, powder room and the office space. To the right, are the kid’s bedroom and the lounge. To the left is the master bedroom.

The lounge area primarily used by the family to sit together and host guests is designed to be formal yet a cozy spot. The space was to also have a large TV, so the placement of the furniture was decided as such to maximize sitting and visibility. The walls of the lounge above the sofa are paneled in a dark blue to command advantage of the large ceiling height. The blue panels also had solid brass inserts to mimic a modern luxurious way of adding mouldings to it. The wall is further adorned with brass shelves and planters to complement it. The ceiling for this space is clad with patterned veneer to add more warmth. The furniture are selected carefully to mildly complement the blue wall and the soft cushions on it bring more playfulness and vibrancy to it.

Next to the lounge is the kids bedroom and it is designed to have 2 individual beds, 2 study tables and a lot of storage and wardrobe space for books and clothes. Since both kids are girls and they wanted more pinks and soft pastels in their rooms, the backdrop of the beds are carefully designed with customized animal themed wallpapers to go with the pastel pink fluting panels and are further adorned with clouds and stars around them. The bottom part of the wall is clad with pastel blue paneling and brass inlay which complements rest of the wall. The flooring was a combination of marble and wooden to add more warmth. The study for both girls are themed around European houses like cabinets again painted with the same colour theme. The larger book cabinet and the wardrobe is finished with white and pink lacquered glass where the kids can scribble and draw their imaginations. A large tag board for collaging is also a part of the interactive experience in the room for the kids. The space is designed with large glazing to maximize the natural light flow.

The kid’s washroom is designed as an open spacious area with a U shaped walk in glass wardrobe and a separate dressing and vanity wall. The washroom has a combination of dark grey and white tiles and an abstract flooring pattern with just the mirror wall painted in a pastel pink shade to complement the bedroom. The vanity is carefully designed with two large brass framed mirrors hanging down from the ceiling at different lengths for the dressing and the wash area. The vanity also has storage at various levels to provide ease of access to the kids. The shower area also has huge glazing allowing ample natural light. The space is also filled with plants to enhance it.

The kids play area is designed as a colourful vibrant haven for the kids with a play house and a lot of storage space for toys. The space brings together all the pastel shades used in the house together to form a vibrant and a soothing combination. The play house itself has two levels where the top level is accessed through stairs on one side and a wooden slide on the other. The kids are able to climb the alternating coloured stairs, walk through a playful arched brass railing, enter the playhouse with floating balloons on the back wall, and either slide down back or step down through the metal ladder into the lower level. The lower level is a cozier bedded zone with leather wall padding for safety of the kids. The stairs and the walkway has storage space below it for toys.

The larger wall is treated with a jungle themed wallpaper artwork which extends into a pink fluted panel towards the rear. The floor is carpeted for the kids to feel free and safe to move while enjoying their space.

Though the space was for kids, the design was intended to emit luxury with the usage of materials like brass on the railings, windows and the roof. Every little detail is so carefully designed to ensure the safety of the kids while promoting creative thinking in them.

The powder room in the lobby outside the play area is designed with grey and white matt finished tiles and the wall behind the washbasin has a colorful custom designed wall art on it to complement the rest of the interiors.

Since, the office space was visible from the lobby alongside the play area, the design was to be dealt with to complement it but feel entirely different for its own purpose. They had a requirement for a table with enough storage and large pinup boards. So the walls have been covered with a beige texture paint and the pinup boards are mounted on it with a blue fabric to provide a contrast yet complement the colours of the house. The table of the room was designed with a combination of stone and veneer with brass inlay in it.

Since the master bedroom is a more private space, the couple wanted their room to be very different from the rest of the rooms. So it is designed to have a more modern and a darker theme while the carefully selected furniture and decor items add a hint of luxury. The focal bed backdrop wall is divided into two parts, one with rough stone and the other with smooth stone and large shelves. This adds a certain depth and allure with different patterns and materials.

The ceiling has a large, ornate chandelier that hangs above the bed and the flooring features a rich, dark wood floor that compliments the overall colour scheme.
