The development in the automobile industry impacts everyone. It should be compact enough for city driving and occupy the family members of four to sit comfortably. It should look sporty yet efficient and well designed for people of all age groups and personalities. Here are some of the amazing trends in automotive car design that can leave you awestruck!

1. Technology Trend – Plug-in Electric /Diesel Hybrid | Trends in Automotive

There are some problems with wholly electric vehicles, such as battery capacity; the battery can use the charge time for a limited distance. Some solutions remain, technological generation away. The technology is not available for a wide number of users till 2021, but there are many diesel pumps available to distance drivers.

The combination of plug-in electric and turbo diesel hybrid is a new concept, recently announced by Volvo and Subaru. The concept is sensible and sustainable, which offers electric options for short distances or local driving and efficient diesel backup for long distances. By 2020, advancements in fuels like algae biodiesel and other alternative options make diesel the best choice for legacy combustion engine vehicles.

2. Design Trend – Broad Lightweight and Low

In recent times, manufacturers had worked upon performance and efficiency by cutting the curb weight to improve power-weight ratios. At the same time, others are focused on improving the body shapes to improve aerodynamics, interior space, and visual appearance. The Cadillac ATS Coupe strongly emphasized their focus on “Longer, lower, Leaner.” For urban parking, we need to avoid long car designs.

3. Design Trend – Panoramic Roof | Trends in Automotive

The common concept in designing cars has been panoramic roofs, roofs with expanded sunroof panels. Using current options such as a roofline won’t be possible. Glass technology has evolved quickly. The panoramic roof includes state-of-art with glass technology that allows visual access to the passengers.

4. Design Trend –Double Door

The compactness in size is essential in its design but does not mean the driver should give up the functionality of 4 doors. The cars like the all-electric BMW i3 and Honda element featured swing-out double doors. It gives four-door access without taking up the body space and adds weight to the traditional model.

5. Design Trend – High Efficiency and Aggressive Headlights | Trends in Automotive

A well-designed Aggressive headlight is a mark of a sports car. Companies like Audi have connected with the trend to emphasize efficient high-output lighting technology. The aggressive set of headlights uses high-efficiency LEDs to provide an output of high altitude. While traditional headlights consume a good amount of fuel on long distances, lights like these provide the necessary light for safe evening travelling.

6. Technology Trend – Regenerative Brakes

Braking expends a lot of kinetic energy and thousands of momentums to bring a stop. Engineers discovered ways to gather kinetic energy and store it for further use. Regenerative Brakes have been used in trains, pedal-assist bicycles, and some cars for many years. Today, it’s been used in only a few models, including Tesla, yet to be implemented on a large scale.

7. Technology Trend – Exterior Cameras / Sensors Array

A car without drivers can’t be operating alone with software. External cameras and sensors are required to provide the car’s computer with the information it needs to operate. Technological evolution is far from science fiction; they are built and designed in upcoming cars.

Cars such as ATS Coupe and Mercedes Benz S550 feature a complicated array and cameras to provide roadway awareness for the driver. To link the driverless software, it needs to feature an array and cameras mounted in the grille, the side mirrors, and rear-end mirrors to capture the information sideways from every angle.

8. Technology Trend – Heads-up-display Windshield | Trends in Automotive

Heads-Up-Display (HUD) technology helps the driver see information about the car and the surrounding environment without taking their eyes off the road. All are displayed on the windshield, from speed to navigation to safety alerts to inform the driver to drive safely. There is a system that provides such information. However, when it comes to fully automated vehicles, HUD technology will be more useful. HUDs go transparent as the driver touches the wheel to have a safe drive during the driverless mode.

9. Technology Trend – Voice-activated Car OS

Apple revealed Car play for the next generation car operating system. It brings Siri to the automobile that provides voice-activated speech and response systems to control car media and navigation. Voice-activated systems will be most dominant as it controls most of the car’s functionality. A driver can control all non-basic functions verbally.

10. Technology Trend – Fully Driverless Automation Technology | Trends in Automotive

Today it is available in many cars with a drive-assist system built in. In the future, driverless cars could be purely technical. Sensor array and camera are essentials for driverless systems. Cars in future may be built without traditional windshields and steering wheels.
