The primary objective of the standalone office building designed for M/s. VCSMED INDIA PVT. LTD. in Chennai is to create a versatile built space within a semi-urban environment that lacks specific site context.

By toying with proportions, scale, projections and niches, we have stringed characteristic materials like stone composite slabs, WPC slats and an articulative living green wall system to form this composite cladding. This design breathes personality to the office complex, moving away from the generic glass box or ACP/HPL cladding, used in similar projects.
As an ode to the serene nature of the client’s medical appliance and instrument manufacturing business, we envisioned a monochromatic palette with layers of white and natural light flooding the front office space. We have embraced materials such as fluted white PU panels, white and gray stone veneers and white solid acrylic bent to form geometric shapes for the front desk alongside clear glass partitions to enhance openness and light distribution. The flooring features cloud concrete tiles flowing through the space punctuated with colorful geometric patterns on the pantry. The timeless appeal of white is married with textured grays and striking wooden features.
The defining feature is the parametric wooden wave ceiling crafted to seamlessly integrate the lobby, manager’s cabin, conference room, pantry and the restrooms by a singular and striking linear pathway softened by alternating warm lights. These solid wood panels are masterfully created with precision to create a dynamic and engaging visual experience. Hues of blues are used in the conference room and the manager’s den to accentuate the spaces.
Behind the fluted PU partition lies the production side of the complex. The layout is thoughtfully planned to optimize workflow and production efficiency while maintaining sanitary standards. Transparent glass cubicles enhance collaboration across spaces.
Considering the frequent visits from expats and international business partners that the client hosts, we have thoughtfully ideated details to shape the end user’s experience transcending traditional notions of office design in this typology.
