The comb-like arrangement of elongated building forms, the clean white walls, the shadow-supported cornices, moldings, and corners, the resolute columns, raw brick bases, the intertwining roofs, the vaults, and the resin-scented planks, beams, and boards all come together to establish a new communal space.
The functional needs of the building, derived from demographic data, were articulated by the local municipality and the regional school district center.
The comb-like layout enabled us to design all the corridors and ground-floor classrooms with direct access to the courtyard and garden. The classrooms extend radially from the curved main structure to house the different functional units: the gymnasium, locker rooms, staff areas, and wings for lower and upper-grade students. Thanks to the curved design, the building creates an embracing space on the street-facing side.
The orientation of the building and the design of the surrounding gardens were crucial for ensuring a favorable climate, energy efficiency, and a high quality of life.
To meet contemporary demands, we prioritized designing school spaces with versatile uses beyond education, enhancing the economic efficiency of the building’s operation.
