The new environments for the upper grades of the High School in Gaztelupe gunea – Arizmendi Ikastola have been transformed after multidisciplinary research with the educational community based on design thinking sessions as part of a participatory process.

The main strategy was to create a large space with multiple possibilities, which would be inclusive and respond to all the needs of the pedagogical project. The building is a linear L-shaped block with two entrances to different floors. To develop the project, an analysis of the center in terms of program, circulations and needs was carried out and a new master plan of the school building was developed where the new spaces would occupy the second floors and the rest of the program the upper floors.
The project was carried out in two phases. In the first phase, a central multipurpose common space was created, delimited by several rooms for small groups and, at both ends, two reference classrooms.
In the second phase, the main entrance to the center was relocated and the ground and first floors were connected by a staircase. Large, articulated spaces allow for project work in different small groups, with transparency and visual connection between different areas as a constant.
