The Saint Laud High-Speed Train Station’s Footbridge | Dietmar Feichtinger

Architects Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes designed a footbridge for bikes and pedestrians at the Angers Saint-Laud railway station in France

The bridge’s distinctive feature is a large, rounded arch that spans the 70-meter width and cuts into the city’s landscape over the rails’ tangles. The benches with hardwood seats are built into the steel brackets that create the arch’s base on the west side.

Its arched walkway ensures the slope joins the new Place Giffard-Lagenvin promenade and parks. The bridge‘s design is a manifestation of the Station district’s revitalisation.

Restructuration du centre sportif Hector Berlioz

The structure has a multi-gym facility enjoyed by Vincennes residents and high school students next door. The building has been remodelled into a glass-topped copper-clad volume.

This copper covering provides depth and makes the structure appear lighter and more beautiful. The form aspires to learn the “language” of the surroundings as its hue changes to green. The entry approach is designed as a jogging track and situated in the middle of a narrow pedestrian walkway.

10 Logements Sociaux Familiaux Paris 15ème | Dietmar Feichtinger

The newly constructed structure is positioned along Rue Castagnary and slopes back in an L-shape toward the building directly across from it to the north. The built form is encased in a white metal blade enclosure that matches the dominant hue of the quarter.

Its language is modern, keeping with the elegance and attention to detail of some of the neighbourhood’s homes. Moveable panels and adjustable blade inclination make up the façade. Every apartment has a balcony that faces south, and the windows that open to the garden have outside shutters.

Klinikum Klagenfurt

LKH Klagenfurt won a two-stage design competition. The flat, low-lying construction effortlessly blends into Klagenfurt’s low and varied urban surroundings. On the complex’s north side lies the Glan River floodplain.

This lovely green park is a buffer between the city’s urban zone and the hospital grounds. The complex’s seamlessly integrated into the environment due to the façade‘s horizontal split and tiered design. The comb-like layout of the buildings creates a strong visual link to the surrounding green areas for both lodging and medical units.

Passerelle de Trois Pays | Dietmar Feichtinger

Germany‘s Weil am Rhein hosted a design contest for a bridge connecting the two countries’ respective sides of the Rhine River. The winning design for the pedestrian and cycling bridge was picked by the City of Weil on the Rhine and the Community of the Three Borders.

The bridge will benefit the region’s infrastructure as well as cross-community interactions. The 248-meter-long main bridge was pre-assembled at a pre-construction site, relocated on pontoons and transported to its final place.

Art Center Weiz

The neighbourhood needed a suitable gathering place and is distinguished by modest, two-story baroque 19th-century houses, the street grid and squares of the adjacent old town remain fundamentally medieval.

The reaction to this scenario is delicate and sensible. This ancient urban mesh is modelled from this mass of “soft” materials to incorporate the proportions of the newly constructed building. This can be seen on the building’s side elevation, aligning with a recently built side street.

The whole bottom level is set aside for a supermarket, designed to attract a large group of people who will also revitalize the ancient town centre. Thus a stairway is provided connecting to the main hall above the store (plus a lift). With a stage, gallery, and high-tech booth, the hall itself primarily provides an aesthetic experience.

Montreuil Coeur de Ville

Montreuil sous Bois has a population of around 100,000 people. The city centre has three major urban regions. The front of the public space is designated as a commercial centre. As such, the north side of the building is turned towards the current town hall, redefining the city hall’s location.

A newly constructed theatre and cinema complex are part of the commercial centre and cultural component on the east side. Cafes, bars, and restaurants complement the two institutions. The south side is free of installations, allowing for various outdoor activities.

On the accessible roof terrace, there is a daycare and a theatre complex with six movies. The newly developed city centre comprises commercial, cultural, and social institutions.

Passerelle Simone de Beauvoir | Dietmar Feichtinger

The pedestrian bridge unites architecture and structure. The geometry is composed of two arches, so its shape is sensitive to the strictness of the architectural environment. These arches are both structured and directional, forming a wide rope and bow.

This crisscrossing of the paths allows many routes to traverse the bridge while still spanning over 194 metres. The bottom level of the lens creates a plaza that comes alive with temporary installations.  This encourages the walker to take a break in the middle of the path. The pedestrian bridge adheres to the Parisian bridge heritage with its creative design.

Aldilonda – Promenade over the sea

Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes collaborated with Buzzo Spinelli, Insitu Landscape, and Sbp France engineers to create the promenade Aldilonda in Bastia, Corsica’s second-biggest city on the northeast coast.

Aldilonda, anchored on the rock, follows the rocky shoreline five metres above sea level. The rock is the large natural foundation of the massive encircling wall of Bastia’s citadel, which gave the city its name. The rocky shore beneath the wall had been partially accessible up to this point.

Aldilonda is more than a trail; it is a destination with unique viewpoints on the wide sea, hanging between sea and sky. A gently curving road contrasts the huge stronghold and the bastion’s foundation rock. The trail curves around the rock and expands through it. The building blends into the rock, and a magnificent coastline is carefully traversed. In addition, the crimson band of the Corten steel fence provides a strong sense of protection above the sea. The transparent bars complement the iron-bearing rock and the rusty red fence.
